  2. A few weeks ago I also had a Upmann - Half Corona (from 2012) in the tasting. A great cigar! https://donalexandro.blogspot.com/2019/09/h-upmann-half-corona-2012.html
  3. Nope. It rumours about 100k - all sold out. ?
  4. Another info to all interested: There will be a special humidor with all formats: 20x BHK 52, 20x BHK 54, 20x BHK 56, and 20 of the brand new BHK 58. Probably this will also be presented at the Habanos Festival.
  5. Looking at the white Anila, a real white whale.
  6. RG: 42 Length: 129 mm Longfiller, Totalmenta a Mano Beside of the Cohiba - Behike from 2006, the cuban Davidoffs are one of the very special treasures on the cigar market. That's why I am pleased to be able to call some of these cigars my own. Optics: The cigar presents itself in an immaculate Colorado. The beautiful wrapper has no significant leaf veins. An absolutely perfect appearance. Photo was taken from my Cigar-Blog. Coldsmell: As might be expected, the cigar smell mild, but not boring. Sweet and floral aromas come to the fore. For this purpose, white coffee and white chocolate. But even the typical Cuban wood notes can be found. They are here present in the form of sandalwood and cedar. 1st third: Despite the age of nearly 30 years, the Davidoff is still astonishingly present. The smoke shows a very complex depth of flavors. Mild-woody with aromas of sandalwood and wooden cigar box. But also fresh notes can be found, which reminiscent of champagne. For this purpose, a pronounced creaminess. Photo was taken from my Cigar-Blog. 2nd third: Towards the center, the woodiness slightly increases. Through aromas of roasted almonds, the cigar has a slightly sweet touch. Furthermore, complex and creamy. 3rd third: Towards the end of aromas of floral garden herbs protrude into the foreground. Parsley, but continue cedar is detectable. For this a subtle acid touch occurs in the background and provides additional spiciness. Aromas of hazelnuts and walnuts support the impression. Furthermore, the cigar is still creamy and very profound. Photo was taken from my Cigar-Blog.
  7. I work exclusively with low voltage DC. 12V in maximum. The fans are normal, speed-controlled PC fans. Not the cheapest ones, but quite normal. So far I have also used mostly mechanical relays. However, I find SSDs as something "elegant" as an archaic mechanism. Although I also appreciate the historical reliability. To protect the SSRs I oversized them and use additional flyback diodes. The cooling is also not necessary since the SSRs remain cold even without heatsinks. But if the heatsinks are there, they are also screwed on... All in all, I hope that the SSRs are made to last. However, at least long enough. I'm not an electrician, therefore I am a bit proud that I made it at all. How it behaves with the inductive DC-loads due to the fans in future, I will see. I hope the best. Cheers!
  8. Hi Mate, the problem with electronics in action is, that you actually see... ...nothing. It does not blink, it is not noisy, it just works fine and quietly. And filming a running fan is rather pointless. Cheers!
  9. Sure, the Cubans call the last time pretty hefty prices. Although I paid a very good price, I have only two of these cigars. What a pity. The question for a great blend can be surely demand among many cigars. In this case, I would say a very good, but normal blend with an extraordinary shape. If you can get a couple and are happy with the price: grab a few! Certainly not a mistake. Very few Cuban cigars I smoke fresh. I personally stocked cigar for a few years before I smoke. One of the cigars that I like fresh, is the new Montecristo - Petit No. 2. And I'm excited to see how it has developed in a few years. Cheers!
  10. RG: 52 Length: 156 mm Optics: The cigar is wrapped in a nearly flawless wrapper. Only a small fermentation spot spoils the appearance. The maduro-colored wrapper has a beautiful and even veins. The greasy impression downright increases the appetite. Coldsmell: The first impression of cold smell is relatively mild. Sweet with significant aromas of milk chocolate. In the background are detectable aromas of dried garden herbs. 1st third: As a first impression while smoking the description "old cupboard" I get in mind. This is not meant negatively. It refers to an impression old, seasoned wood. A kind of varnish, as it is known by wine. An aromatic component is made of sandalwood and some menthol. Overall, the first impression is nice and round. 2nd third: The mid section the woodiness increases. Also intensify the flavors of garden herbs. Furthermore, the cigar offers a wonderful complexity. 3rd third: Towards the end, the cigar becomes, as expected, increasingly stronger. The woody aromas decrease in favor of leather. The varnish has completely disappeared. In its place, a pleasant spiciness has entered. The photos and the tasting was taken from my cigar-blog.
  11. Since 2 years I have been running my humidor cabinet with a self-developed Arduino based humidifier. And I'm very happy with it. But for some time already annoyed me that the used Relay Shield clacks minimal and the flying wired Protoshield, although you can not see, looked like a permanent provisional arrangement. The resulting solution is a self-developed and professionally produced control board, which combines both Shields and works with electronic transistors instead of mechanical relays. In order to have more options for the future, the circuit was designed somewhat universally. The photo was taken from my cigar-blog. Here are the new main features: 12V input voltage Power supply for all 5V Arduino models (Uno, Leonardo, Mega, Yun) Up to 4 independently readable hygrometer Up to 4 independently controllable fans (convection and/or humidifier) Display via I²C bus connectable The specific setup for my humidor is:2 LED-stripes for lighing 1 self-monitoring hygrometer (consisting of 3 hygrometer type AM2303) 1 humidifier 1 convection fan Display 2x16 The photo was taken from my cigar-blog. The accompanying blog articles: April 28, 2013: New Humidor with "HumidorControl F" May 17, 2015: Humidor control with HumiCon-Shield And if the question comes up: I do not sell these shields. Cheers Don
  12. I use the psychrometer only for calibration. When measured over 30 minutes (one measurement per second) I had a variation of no more than 0.5% RH. But I work with a mean of 10 values so such outliers were smoothed. I am very satisfied with the accuracy. In the end (for me) it is no matter what exact moisture I have in the humidor. I am not a number freak. 71.8% RH or 72.5% RH. It does not matter. Important are the cigars. They must have a pleasant humidity. You may have read that I moisten my humidor cabinet with a homemade Arduino-humidifier. I have described the project in my blog. Maybe the description is an excitation for your project. I think there is a small fallacy. The values do not jump. They are linear. As with a hair hygrometer. In my humidor I use a block with 3 replaceable hygrometers DHT22 (also called AM2303) (see picture). This hygrometer I have calibrated to identical values. I use 3 hygrometer so they can check each other. If the measured value of one hygrometer deviates more than 5%, the value is discarded and the hygrometer is reported as faulty. I need to replace it. As actual display value I use an average of the last 10 measurements of all three hygrometer. This smooth small fluctuations (no humidor has an absolutely homogeneous humidity distribution). For a mostly even humidity distribution I use a convection fan in the cabinet. You're welcome.
  13. So far I have calibrated my hygrometer always with the salt-method. This works quite well with normal (small) hygrometers. But it is not really practical for my permanently installed humidification-system in the humidor cabinet. Therefore I have now built an electronic psychrometer. It consists of two electronic thermometers and an Arduino. So I can quite easily calibrate the hygrometer in the cabinet. Maybe this is interesting for some in the forum. In my blog I described the construction in more detail.
