  1. Rob... curious to see how you determined that soccer is now No. 3 sport in Australia. Are you referring to attendances? TV ratings? TV rights revenue? Participation? My understanding is soccer really only leads AFL and NRL in one aspect and that is participation. And that is largely due to children. The other two leave the A League for dead in every other way. Cricket would probably have greater TV audiences and revenue with CA and BBL combined. But your point is very relevant... The soccer monster is growing at a rate of knots. Surely this is down to overly cautious mums not wanting to see their precious little angels hurt playing AFL and Rugby/League.
  2. The show began in 1989. 26 years ago. And still it is the most relevant, funny and dark show on tv. Hands down the greatest free to air show of all time. IMO only the Sopranos matches it but no point comparing. Another awesome cigar series
  3. Melbourne has some quality private clubs that are worth investigating whether you have reciprocal rights to. I can't speak for the Kelvin Club as haven't been there but there are other top notch clubs including the Athenaeum, Australia Club, old hat Melbourne Club. Even the RACV Club has some excellent facilities including gym, pool, hotel, restaurants, bars etc. Ask your club for full list
  4. Had a look at some at a Melbourne B&M today and they looked quite sick with no sheen whatsoever. Have no doubt they will taste sensational but at $106 a pop they would want to
  5. Ken, Fuzz, Pres my sentiments exactly. A strange deeply uncomfortable feeling came over the entire office today. So terribly sad. Perhaps it is because so many Australians associate summer with cricket and a happy period of the year. A young man cut down in his prime doing what he loved.
  6. Universita cafe. Tiamos. Jimmy Watson's. Carlton yacht club. And even Brunetti is great. Can't miss with these options. Good food, wine and coffee. Drop into King and Godfrees... Best deli/wine shop in Melbourne
  7. Definitely worth mentioning the Black Sorrows. Harley & Rose just reminds me of growing up in inner city Melbourne. Paul Kelly is also another most non Aussies should check out
  8. Massive Newcastle United fan. And it's all thanks to Alan Shearer. Greatest tease of a club in history. Money, fans, sponsors... And no trophies
  9. Why are we as humans so attached to certain species. Conservationists push only the cute and cuddly animals into our living rooms with stories of habitat destruction and slaughtering/poaching. I always wonder how far these efforts would go if they sat out the front of Coles and placed billboards and tv ads up featuring rare cockroaches or almost extinct blood sucking vampire bats. Would they even drag up a raised eyebrow? Perish the thought of people clambering on board such a serious environmental issue and putting their hand in their pocket. I simply raise this to outline the confused nature of humans. In the West (save for a few Viking states) we abhore whale hunting. Why? It's not really about whether they are endangered or not. We hate seeing beautiful creatures as Ken correctly states being butchered. 3 toed slug fish... right this way gentleman, bring the AK's. But the Japanese (who we all know are lying though their teeth) have eaten this mammal for god knows how many years. Aboriginals have eaten dugong's for probably just as long and I can assure you their deaths would be just as horrific. Yes i know... 40 dead dugong's is not the same thing. But are the whales they are hunting endangered? Are they not mostly minke's and the like who are in huge numbers? BTW... I feel ill at the thought of witnessing our one these majestic creatures being harpooned and dragged out of the water by a giant cable. I also felt nautious seeing a lamb slaughtered and hung in my grandparents barn on a hook. I still ate it with a side of potato salad and a nice glass of shiraz
  10. Just for my benefit when people say HH Royal Robusto are they referring to the LCDH release from 2010-11ish? Or the HH RR LE released after? My two cents.... the LE was incredible and the LCDH was just not near it.
  11. It's actually quite remarkable that as of right now... right this minute Australia is the best team in the world. Maybe the next 2 tests will show a more muted Australia but currently we have the best attack, best batting depth (rookies included) and a spinner who is a terrific part player. I may even be short selling Lyon. The most incredible and speedy 180 I have ever witnessed in world cricket. Nothing ruins the confidence of the opposition and lifts yours like a truly brutal fast bowler. Let's just call it for what it it is. Everyone is just ****-scared of him. P.S Please don't anyone even mention India in this convo. New Zealand 105 and still won. There... I said it
  12. I really enjoyed the movie as I viewed it purely as entertainment. I found it to be a rediculous and hedonistic rollercoaster of bullshit and I didnt feel like it even went the 3 hours. But then you remember this guy fleeced thousands of people over a period and walked away virtually scot free. Afterwards I actually started to feel a little uneasy when the fact that this was based on true events kept coming into mind. He hasnt even paid back the $110M penalty yet. Means nothing for the quality of the film but perhaps they could have touched more on his victims. Giving him a cameo was also wrong.
  13. Not sure how many of my fellow Australians follow the NFL but I have been loving it of late. I am a Seattle man myself and have a slight man crush on Marshawn Lynch. What an absolute beast. He could seriously tow a truck. And quickly.
  14. I have my Bruce tickets in hand as we speak and if he is to beat my all time favourite Prince he is going to need to put on a show that actually makes me cry. I am so excited to find out just how good he will be. Prince's concert 15 May 2012 at Rod Laver was a night I will never forget. Just pure enjoyment on the faces of 15,000 people aged between 5 and 95. Hope I can feel the same way again
