Skyfall
Several of us Local Yocals have been preaching this for years!!!! We know it beats all!!!! Me, Butcher25, Troutkiller, Djanssentx, ect!!!!!! It's finally getting the recognition that it deserves. http://www.forbes.com/sites/abrambrown/2014/03/26/finest-new-whiskey-in-the-world-not-from-a-glen-in-scotland-but-from-under-a-bridge-in-texas/
bacalao
Got a chance to see the Krooked bourbon on a distillery tour earlier this year. Didn't get a chance to try it but it was pitch black; interesting stuff.

Skyfall
The single malt ,( the one that won the awards last year), goes great with anything in my opinion. Especially full bodied sticks.
JoeyGunz
readily available?
Skyfall
readily available? Last couple of years it was readily available in Texas, then the single malt won the gold medal and the high ranking by Jim Murray. After that, the majority of stock, so I was told, went to NY and overseas, with the rest still in major stores in Texas, but trust me, that doesn't mean it's in stock. It's extremely difficult to find some of the higher rated lines in stock. I actually went to college with one of the founders/owners. He's a good guy! TM-US
I'm glad this topic came up. I was curious about Balcones, having seen it on the shelves a bunch of times and hearing about the awards it has won. I guess I'll have to pick up a bottle of the single malt. bacalao
Looks like Balcones will be even more scarce. They killed it in San Fransico cleaning up that award ceremony.

Lotusguy
Had a chance to try the single malt recently. It tasted like Bourbon to me - not my cup of tea, I'm afraid.
Skyfall
Had a chance to try the single malt recently. It tasted like Bourbon to me - not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. It is "Bourbon", (even though it's not made in Kentucky) It's a single malt "bourbon style" whiskey. It's not intended to be a scotch style whiskey.

TM-US
I can't find any Balcones! I've been looking for a while and the only place I've seen that had the single malt wanted $100/bottle. What is a fair price? $60?
srbbones
Typical price is $60 - $80 They are hard, but not impossible, to find.

What is a fair price? $60? I would say now a days for the single malt, if you can find it $80-$100 is typical. It used to be in lower range, but I'm afraid, those days are gone. If I recall, the last so paid was $89 and it was at a store a half a mile from the distillery. They had just gotten 3 bottles in, the first 3 in 6 months, and felt it would be their last 3 for another 6 months.
khomeinist
Fortunately or not, the single malt is much cheaper outside Texas. The last bottle I found out of state was around $60.
TM-US
Finally found some Balcones Single Malt- at $90/bottle, it is awfully expensive. I hope it's worth it, because there isn't any more to be found around me.
fokker4me
Just found bottles of single malt for $70.00and $79.00 in NJ. Its a shame I paid $89.00 earlier this week.

bacalao
Has anyone had the Brimstone or Baby Blue? I saw both available as well. Baby blue a little to sweet for my liking. I love the brimstone very different like drinking a bbq it is wood smoked instead of peat smoked.

TM-US
Any thoughts on the future of Balcones? I heard the creator was ousted from the distillery.
fokker4me
Just opened up the single malt this evening. A really good bottle. Not worth the hunt for it, but a good bottle. As for the company's future, it seems up in the air with the master distiller not allowed at the distillery for 90 days.
