Marevas (2/5)

  1. Mas Igneus is a great winery...but I'm not sold on red wine and cigars, or even really wine and cigars.
  2. Monte 3 from a 5 pack, no date provided. Absolutely awful, didn't want to burn and when it did, it was like a burning trash bag. Even worse is that the first couple of puffs were brilliant, pure cocoa powder. A couple of nights ago I had a Jose L Piedra Cazador from a 5 pack I got at the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof in 2018 that was pretty rough, not sure I got halfway through before tossing it in the grill.
  3. I smoked a Super after about 2 weeks of resting, a 21 box I believe (not feeling motivated to go upstairs right now) and I was floored by how integrated and enjoyable it was. I know these were a lot cheaper a few years ago but I was really happy for $6/stick, I don't think I could come close in an NC for that price. It had a tiny bit of a bitter cardamom/coriander edge but I'm hoping that smooths out with some time.
  4. Can't make wine from home. Unless I'm being bombarded with emails I have to be on-site.
  5. I went to their storefront last month and heard the clerks educating some customers on the value of the plume on their cigars. No joke.
  6. I'm in the same boat regarding pepper and nicotine...looking at a La Flor Dominicana turns my stomach. The last great NC I had was an aged (I think it was a little older due to the red band) l'Atelier Lancero Maduro. It had a beautiful salty/mineral finish (sort of like drinking a very high sodium content sparkling mineral water) and almost a Szechuan peppercorn sensation. I really loved it. I'd also love to hear more suggestions.
  7. I ordered a box of Super Partagas, it just came down to it being the size I prefer the most of the three I mentioned. I'll report back in a few months
  8. Montecarlos, every time they come up I'm distracted at 24:24 time.
  9. Sotol tends to be pretty rustic, like mezcal with more edges. Generally not as smooth as tequila and not as smokey as mezcal can be (but mezcal isn't always smokey...that might be best saved for another discussion). But it has a bite to it that's fairly interesting and unique. That being said, if you're getting the Desert Door in Australia, I'd bet it's been smoothed out and sweetened just like most large scale agave distillates.
  10. Funny, I smoked a Romeo No 1 tubo a few weekends ago and the ash was quite black as well.
  11. Alex MJ23s and Lanceros. CoLa for scale, these things are beautiful. Edit: man this pic really looks bad now that I've posted it
  12. I'm younger than a lot of you but not the youngest here, so I think for people around my age... Posting wild stuff on message boards without any realization that it might be used against you later. I think a lot of pre-Facebook/Twitter/Instagram sites have been wiped pretty clean but you can't say inflammatory stuff anonymously now like you could 10-15 years ago. It's probably one of the reasons I'll never run for office!
  13. 30 minutes in Walmart sounds worse than 30 minutes of Dark Side of the Moon 😜
  14. Am I allowed to have a dissenting opinion? 😁 If I want to hear this album I can hear most of it in a CVS or Walmart, I find it quite unexciting and wildly overplayed/overworshipped. It's training wheels for psychedelic/prog, not that I really consider it psychedelic and generally don't enjoy commercial prog much (though I like the prog coming from the krautrock scene a little more).
