  1. I agree with LORD, my cabinet is 48w x 24d x 80h and my humidistat is at the top. I have always kind of gone by what people say about what to set the stat at. Some say 65% others 70%, It was a few years back I opened a box of NC's up that was on the top shelf that had been stored for about a year. When I opened the box nothing but mold, lucky for me it was only surface it had not reached inside the cigar, also it was only in 2 boxes. At that point I started listening to the cigars, I found out in my unit 63% is the optimal humidity, plus I bought a hygrometer for each shelf. I got them at Wally world for like $8, calibrated them and they work great. Now to tell you how the real world works where everything is not so perfect, I have my humistat set at 65%, the top shelf hygrometer reads 65%, second shelf 64% - 65% more on 64%, 3rd shelf 63% and 4th shelf bounces between 62% - 63%, and the very bottom storage area where I keep extra ashtrays, lighters and such usually reads 62%. Now for the kicker, if I have my humistat set on 65% those are the readings I get, if I set it to 70% the humidity the top shelf will be 73% - 75%, second shelf 73%, next shelf 73% and last shelf 72%. I dont know why there is a big jump in the humidity like that, it took me about a year to get it straitened out, now when I smoke a cigar I can tell a HUGE difference in the flavors. So you have to listen to your cabinet and cigars, when I first started collecting cigars and people told me that, I thought they had some mental issues but now I get it. Good luck you'll figure it out. Update forgot to add.......I no longer go by what my humidistat says, I adjust the setting going by what the hygrometers say.
  2. Also by doing this and make sure all the doors are sealed you should not have to use any other media like beads and stuff. I have had this cabinet for over a year, I change the filter in the humidifier every 3 months I change the water in the 2 gallon holding tank and clean out the tank to get all the possible slim out that my be in there every 6 months. My unit holds pretty good between 65% and 69% depending on temp in the house. I have never had to use any other media. Honestly I can open my doors and leave them open for 5 to 10 minutes close them back and the humidity will go back to 65% to 69% in a few minutes without the humidifier even coming on. It holds 2 gallons and that will usually last 6 months with maybe a 1/2 a gallon or more left.
  3. It was just a small hole just big enough for the wire, but I just a small amount of Aquarium caulk to fill it.
  4. That is how mine is set up. The humidistat is a 120V 15A AC switch, single pole, COF (close on fall). That means when the humidity falls below the preset, the switch (humidistat) closes, making energy to the receptacle below to run the humidifier. When the rising humidity reaches its preset, it opens, turning off power to the humidifier receptacle, and goes back into standby. It is important to note there is a 120VAC live wire feed to the humidistat anytime the unit is plugged into a live outlet. Think of the humidistat as a living room switch that turns on all the table lamps in the room; that means you can always test the humidistat element by plugging anything that is "on" (lamp, radio, etc) into the receptacle below, and turning it on and off by cycling the humidistat control up top back and forth.
  5. I cant just throw stuff in Im to OCD everything has to have its place
  6. I don't have many CC yet , most are NC. The top shelf are my full boxes, the 2nd shelf NC, 3rd shelf CC, 4th shelf desktop humidor with my favorite go to smoke and will be used for full boxes, the last shelf has some NC mixed single and full CC boxes. The bottom part hides my 2 gallon humidifier and the other door displays my favorite cutter, lighters and ashtrays. The cabinet is a JC Pendergast 48"w x 24"d x 80"h.
