If we are to translate this quote I would rather say : "se torcher le cul avec de la soie". That verb is used both in France and here in Québec. And the opposition between "torcher" (which is kinda rude) and "soie" which is a delicate fabric makes it all the more striking. Just my two cents ! And to the OP's point, I could not agree more.
