  1. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61188579 "The world's major oil exporters have agreed to cut production by two million barrels a day. Members of oil producers' group Opec+ - which includes Russia - are taking the action to help boost oil prices." Unless everyone is just talking about US production...

  3. That's a helluva coincidence, I got an email from the kids school today about haf term holiday activities including an advert for a science based day where the finale was stated as "have a hair-raising time with our Van Der Graaff generator!" Van de graaff being the correct name of the generator in question Van der Graaf being an english rock band formed in 1967. They also titled that section "Electrickery". Probably doesn't need to be said but my children won't be going...
  4. I lost my sense of smell for about a week and a half, taste was still there to some extent but I could huff an onion or stick my nose in the cat food bowl and it was like fresh air, really bizarre. So only a week and a half. Sister in law got it over 18 months ago and still nothing tastes right...
  5. Love how the swear is censored by totally not changing it at all 😂
  6. Went to a nhs doctor about 4 years ago, might have been 40 at the time, to get a minor skin lump/tag/whatever checked. Basically got told I'm getting old and there's no point getting every lump or whatever checked cos I'd be there all the time. No one can make you feel like you're wasting their precious time better than a gp. Now I've got private health care for me and the kids, I still don't use it much but the difference is night and day. Put me down in the I'll see a doctor when I need a doctor camp.
  7. The funny/counterintuitive thing is that the more you put off wearing masks or being vaccinated to preserve your freedoms, the more authoritarian things will become.
  8. I'm a solo parent with kids so had less time than ever! On the positive side - I spent a lot of time with my kids. On the negative side - See above. (I also learned how to make bread and ice cream)
  9. Be interesting to know if they were tested due to random symptoms or just regular testing, a vaccine surely can't stop you 'catching' an illness, you still get it on your hands, up your nose etc, but once it's in you your immune system can fight it off - which surely isn't instant, so if exposed to the illness wouldn't you potentially test positive for it while your immune system is mopping it up? Has there ever been (before this) a rollout of a vaccine where huge numbers of people were being tested regularly after getting the vaccine, whether they showed symptoms or not? Update - Just checked, 6 of the 7 were symptomless - so in normal circumstances we wouldn't even know they 'have' covid (whether they can transmit it as they were effectively fighting it off is another question), and I can't find details of the symptoms for the one who did have symptoms. Just a hunch but I bet if we tested regularly throughout winter for flu a lot of vaccinated people would 'have' it, without really getting it/being actively symptomatic.
  10. One thought about this, sales last year fell through the floor for obvious reasons, and the best selling car of december cost over £40k! Just a guess but that suggests to me the people who bought cars last december were relatively minted, and Tesla are definitely in the "look at what I'm driving while I drop off the kids" category, a bit range rover... Basically I don't think car sales over the last year can be compared meaningfully with any other year.
  11. So the biggest rollout of a vaccine ever, and you're saying we should do an antibody test on everybody before they get vaccinated? And seeing as anyone can potentially pass on the virus, there isn't anyone who absolutely doesn't need it. Also, if the antibodies fade after say a year, similar to flu for example, then you'd still need to start getting the vaccine next year anyway, and you may have no idea when you initially got infected so how long your antibodies will last, getting vaccinated gives you that information so you know when you need your next vaccination. In the very short term trying to save doses for those who need it more makes sense, which is why they start with frontline nhs and older people, but it looks like most wealthy countries have ordered multiple times their entire population of doses (canada five times I think I read!) so longer term it makes more sense just to make sure everyone possible gets it to give the greatest chance of reducing the infection rate as much as possible. This also makes financial sense as the Oxford vaccine, once approved hopefully this year, costs £3 and the antibody test from one non profit organisation I checked costs £39!
  12. Except that in this case currently the advice is for pregnant people not to get the vaccine and there may be issues around people with strong allergies. In the case of 'live' vaccines as another example, people undergoing cancer treatment may not be able to be vaccinated. There are likely other reasons why the person you could infect may not be able to have a vaccine, so there will be people out there who cannot protect themselves. And that's not taking into account how effective the vaccine is, the more people who are vaccinated the higher the overall protection to everyone.
  13. Oculus quest 2, 1 or 2 hrs a day 5 days a week - pistol whip, beat saber, super hot etc - it's gruelling but you gotta keep in shape somehow.
  14. Bellininitini 2 shots vodka, 1/2 or 1 peach schnapps, top up with champagne in a martini glass with a block of ice. 1st one goes well with any cigar, 2nd goes great, not sure about the third and can't remember the fourth or fifth...
