I started smoking cigars at an alarming early age. In summer 1974, after reading the biography of a certain Zino Davidoff, I tried my first habano and from that moment I remained faithful to that passion. So I'm celebrating my 40s anniversary now.
In those times in my home town Cologne you could just walk around a corner and buy a Cuban Davidoff! To do this as often as possible I started giving guitar lessons. One hour was about one Panetela or small Corona.
(By the way: never ever confuse a Cuban Davidoff with one of nowadays!)
Although I love and appreciate a lot what we get from Cuba today, I must concede the quality was much more consistent back then; finding the best was not such an adventure. On the other hand all the issues probably add something to the thrill today and the pleasure is even greater when you make a scoop...
Friggin unbelievable: even in the 90s you could still walk in everywhere and smoke a big cigar unmolested!
Thanks heaven we still have some places around where thick smoke hovers in the air and sometimes I just drive to Austria or the Czech Republic, the last smoker's paradises I know.
After decades of try and error I also finally found THE dealer and THE humidor man.
As for the cigars as all of you I try to choose carefully. But 50s cabinets never were amiss.
And now I discovered THE site and THE forum!
The spirit in this community is great.
