My favorite..uni at jiros

A few years ago, my wife, who is a food and beverage photographer, was hired to shoot Garret Oliver, head brew master of Brooklyn Brewery, by a Belgian beer magazine.  Since the writer did not know Ma

Wendy's double with cheese with everything, fries, and a frosty.

Best meal I've had was in a little tiny town in named Törwang in Bavaria (Germany). The place is called Der Entenwirt. They make this fantastic duck, with traditional Bavarian sides. (Red cabbage and bread or potato dumplings). I go there every time I am in Bavaria.

Narrowing it down to one would be too difficult. I'll list a few that were all fantastic in their own way.

Peccato Di Vino - Rome

Craftsteak - Las Vegas

I'm trying to find out the name of the one we ate at in Assisi.

I don't know about best. There's tons of factors that can come in to play. I've had some great meals because of the company I was with, while the food was mediocre, and I've had some terrible meals where the food was good and the company was god awful.

Lee in Toronto is a great resto though. Run by Susur Lee, who was on top chef masters, and I believe came in second place (he got robbed) There is a singaporean slaw that is a mainstay on the menu that is AMAZING.

Tres Carnales in Edmonton is great too.

The leg of lamb at Prado 309 in Havana. Second runner up, their mixed grill. I went down to Havana for the first time last November. I was expecting a culinary catastrophe. I packed crackers, Nutella, and digestive cookies as "emergency" measures in case I could not stomach the food. surprised.gif:potty:pooped.gif Much to my pleasant surprise. The meals we had were outstanding. :ok:

In Paris I had a couple of excellent meals. A little place near our apartment had these fantastic, loaded salads. Basically big bowls of fresh leaves, tomatoes, onions, olives with loads of fresh cut bacon, a fried egg and to top it off. The salad had over of an inch of fresh garlic potatoes layered on top. hungry.gif Each salad could have fed 2 - 3 people. Pair it with a half litre of house wine and you're on your way. At a fancier restaurant I had the best French Onion soup ever.

In Rome, not too far from the Spanish steps, we shared an awesome charcuterie plate, a bottle of red a killer mille feulle style dessert and conversed with a local couple over addtional bottles of wine.

Closer to home, we enjoy local restaurants that always deliver good quality food at affordable prices. I always enjoy making canelloni's or lasagna as well. :ok:

I don't have a long memory for restaurants, but the meal we just had in Montreal at Au Pied de Cochon , with several kinds of Fois gras, wine and French onion soup, incredible bread and desserts to die for... I would go again and again!!

A toss up between a Corn dog and a Jamaician goat meat patty at 3:00 in the morning after a long night of heavy drinking.

Come to think of it any junk food at 3:00 am while totally inebriated is just too good for words.

USDA Prime Dry-Aged Bone-In Ribeye from Golden Gate Meat Company, grilled on my trusty Webber Genesis. No steakhouse I have tried even gets close.

I have fond memories (or the lack thereof) of my time in NYC...

Nothing quite like waiting along with the rest of the city at 4am after a night of drinking for some Mamouns.

Wake up at noon and walk to Murray's Bagels, the best bagels in NYC and arguably, the world. House smoked salmon, onions, tomato, cream cheese, and capers...perfection.

I also used to frequent the Corner Bistro back in those days; It was kind of a local secret spot. Back in the day, it easily had the best burgers in town, and I remember how the waiters would bring the McSorley's beer...Corner Bistro had glass steins that were hexagonal, so the waiters would squeeze 4 glasses together, which would interlock 5-10 more beers. You would see them walking through the place hauling a ring of beer. It's kind of hard to imagine, I know. My former co-workers told me a year ago that the pub has fallen off a cliff after a management change. It's a shame. It used to be one of the greatest places in NYC for "in the know eats." My friends and I still talk about how legendary that place used to be when we were young.

A lamb dish in India. A Muslim restaurant. More like a Moroccan style I guess. Really crusty and slow cooked kind of like a bbq or oven baked tandoori.

A waygu steak at the Spanish garden in Brisbane was another stand out.

Eating fish on the beach in Jamaica while visiting my relatives. This was south of Kingston away from all of the resorts. We dug a hole in the sand and laid a piece of tin roof over the hole. Fresh fish was bought from a local stand on the water. The fish was cleaned and stuffed with a mixture of butter and chicken noodle soup mix. It was wrapped in foil and cooked on the fire. It was served with hard dough bread and local avocado, mango, and papaya.

On the same trip, my aunt cooked a huge pot of curry goat. A local friend brought over a huge stack of freshly made roti, with coconut oil. By the end of the day, everything was gone.

Joel Robuchon in Vegas in the MGM Grand hotel. Have been lucky enough to have experienced this restaurant twice. Tasting menu both times. Outgrageously expensive but a truly memorable food/service evening both times.
