My favorite spot - so favorite, I worked my butt off to get transferred up here, and buy a place - is just northwest of Mt. Lassen, here in Northeast California... there are a number of forested lak

There's a pretty obscure bend in the South Fork of the Ouichita River that is my fav smile.png It's off the beaten path with idyllic scenery, has LOTS of big hungry small mouth, and if you're quiet deer and turkey will walk up on you. Other bigger critters will walk up on you too. That's when I started toting a handgun. I know the bears are more afraid of me than I am of them but still.

I love fishing locally. Made a promise to Di that I would fish Wednesday mornings half a day every week. Yet to fulfill innocent.gif

Fly fishing a receding tide off a sandbank with a cigar in mouth....anywhere... is a beautiful thing.

A five minute drive to serenity and a good gar = lucky

I do live in the land of ten thousand lakes but when there's two hundred thousand people fishing them the 12 hour drive is well worth it!!

Here's a little fish porn..

I fly fish mostly, and I am not too far away from the White River in Arkansas. Great place to catch a variety of trout and to hunt monsters… Especially at night.

Other than that, I would have to say Utah. There are some really nice stretches of water there. The Strawberry and Duchesne being at the top of the list for me.

While I grew up fishing mostly streams and lakes with the occasional surf casting thrown in (Cape Hatteras FTW!), my true passion is bill fishing. Still looking for that elusive Blue Marlin grander.

My dad was an avid fisherman and taught me from a young age. We first went deep sea fishing off Oahu when I was 6 or 7 years old.

His dream was to buy and run a charter boat off the Florida Panhandle, but unfortunately had a stroke just as he approached the point he could have done this.

I've had the opportunity to fish some pretty special waters across the Caribbean (Bahamas, VIrgin Islands, St. Lucia - better diving than fishing there IMO), Atlantic and Pacific sides of Mexico, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Carolinas, Puerto Rico, Pacific Northwest and Hawaii.

I've had a few runs across home of the monster marlin, Grander Alley off the Big Island's Kaialua Kona coast yet only landing some decent Mahi, Ahi and Ono.

My favorite memory to date, and hence one of my favorite fishing spots is off the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica. Was down with some extended family about 10 years back and after a long day of getting skunked, most disappointing not hooking a large Black Marlin that swam just behind the boat, I suggested to the skipper we head in closer to shore and take out some light tackle so the youngsters could hopefully reel something in before the day was over.

Anyway, we're trolling around and I took my turn in the seat. Lo and behold, a Sailfish hit the lure, jumped a dozen feet out of the water and the game was afoot. After a decent fight, seemed like an hour but more like 15 minutes, I get this beauty to the boat.

Mate figured I landed a Pacific around 12 foot and 130+ pounds! Tagged and released I was still vibrating from the adrenalin, most awesome catch yet for me.

Would love to do a Hemingway and fish the waters off of Cuba, so maybe next time (first time) I get there I'll take a shot - anyone know how the fishing is in November?

Beyond the actual trying to catch fish though, I enjoy getting up dark early, casting off from the docks, cracking a beer and lighting a cigar as the sun rises, and hanging out with like-minded passionate people.

To wrap, my dad did get a ~900 pound Blue off Maui before he passed, wish I'd been there but am very happy he got to live one of his dreams. Gives me faith I'll achieve mine one day too.

Mine is for a sentimental reason... My parents own a cottage in Monticello, IN and several times a summer we'd go down and fish off our little deck into the river. Brings back memories of fighting Bass and Carp with my dad into the wee hours of the morning with a little propane lamp attracting all the bugs, lol.

Have you fished the Mountain Fork in McCurtain County? It's turned into a pretty nice piece of trout water!

Yes… I fished there once a couple of years ago. The water looks great. We were there around this time of the year, but some early hot temps put the trout down. It was also really crowded. A lot of people were burning the good holes by walking right through them.

I'm sure if you catch it at the right time it is great.

We have some epic fishing on Kaipara harbour at a spot called "The Graveyard" on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand (just above Auckland)

I will never forget my first trip in an old solid steel fishing boat converted to a charter vessel.

We pull up to the site and the tide is going so fast this fishing boat is almost "still on the plane" at anchor...

Skipper casually comments, if you've got a 64 ounce sinker you can put your line in now.

Well we were "East Coast" boys and use 1/2 ounce to 2 ounce stray lines mostly...so we had to wait.

An hour later he says if you have 48 ounces you can put it in now!

So we tie all of our sinkers together and finally come up with a sufficient weight and drop a bait...

Whammo!

Massive snapper smashing our vaults as soon as they hit the bottom, no mucking around...lock the drag up full noise and rip their lips off!

The current is still running so fast it pushes them to the surface and they skim along the top all the way back to the boat :)

Legend!

Fishing 10-15 miles offshore from Kamuela, HI. Fond memories deep-sea fishing with my dad there. I'd catch a lot of 10lb yellowtail. One time I hooked an 82 inch mahi mahi when I was 10 yo. Light tackle and after a couple minutes on the line knew it wasn't a small tuna. Had my dad real it in. However, few feet away from the boat a shark took it. That was the one that got away. But that memory will always be there.

Nice....... what is that in the background top left of picture

Grey Whaler shark or also known as black fringe whaler shark I think. But when I took this mahi mahi there were a lot of small silky sharks about who were really full-on and curious so it could be one of them too. We found a floating old net with floats and it had a lot of sea life following it, including blue and gold flashes from the surface so we entered the food chain to find a load of silky sharks, some small wahoo and some mahi mahi.

That is what Im talking about!

I love to drive 4 hrs N to the Boise Brule off the south shore of Lake Superior during the fall Steelhead Run and after a brutish chase and fight of a Fresh Chrome Missile, find me a nice flat rock and sit for a spell enjoying the whole experience with a fine Smoke!

This place isn't called the river of Presidents for nothing? Its is absolutely amazing. ( I have begun to pack some heat on my last couple trips due to unexpected visitors while hiking in and out. LOL!)

El Prez, you really do need to make that promise reality. Life is too short you know!

My very most favorite special spot is not one many can get to but it's almost worth applying for a job there just for the fishing. The last time I was there I was pulling in pink snapper varying in size from 200 to 500mm basically every cast for a duration of half an hour to 45 mins until the sharks showed up. What made it super awesome was the fact I was only using a handline and I was beach fishing, casting no further out than maybe 20m. Absolutely fantastic.

This is the type of thing on offer at Useless Loop in Shark Bay, Western Australia. The town is closed to the public unless you are employed by the salt mine there, but there is awesome fishing all over the peninsula there.

The salt mine is the best though - saltwater fly fishing in the inlet lakes. At the highest tide the water is let into this huge pond/lake to feed the crystalliser ponds and a ton of fish get pulled in and it is great fun sight fishing with a fly rod or lure

Then there is the ship loader where you can go out there at night and fish off there (only when there's no ship in) and there is some monsters around the piles. But about 20 mins after the first drop of blood hits the water the sharks will steal every fish you hook.

But my favourite is just walking along the beach on the seaward side of the inlet pond and just chucking out a handline.

Cheers

I don't work there, I've only had the luck to go to a few jobs there

My favorite spot - so favorite, I worked my butt off to get transferred up here, and buy a place - is just northwest of Mt. Lassen, here in Northeast California... there are a number of forested lakes up here, all of them are local known hotspots... most I have worked (with both spinner and fly) have brought home dinner and freezer fodder!!

Like Creeks? Rivers? Welll... about 20 minutes north of the house (if you drive slow) is Hat Creek; while parts are restricted as to take (either catch & release or size/creel limits) others are free to bring home the trout...

And if I want a change, I have Trinity Lake/the Trinity River (and it's tributaries) about 2 hours due west. Coffee Creek (north end of Trinity Lake) is where I cut my teeth fishing as a kid, watched some pretty big German Browns and Rainbows pulled from that water... ;-)

Of course, we had a pretty dry winter, but for now, anyway, the waters are flowing, and the fish are biting!

And add to this... a good friend (Kara) works as a guide at our local Fly Fishing shop (appropriately named the Fly Shop)... which is great for the people getting their waders wet in strange waters.

Fishing paradise? I think I'm there!!!

I have fished with The Fly Shop before. I had a really good time. I fished mostly the Pit and Sacramento rivers. Really nice water and beautiful country. I wouldn't mind having access to those waters on a regular basis.
