Campanas (3/5)

  1. I wish I didn't love this cigar so much. Never had one that wasn't at least excellent, and many that were just superb. Great young, incredible with 5+. Complex, rich, long lasting. This is one cigar that I will spend too much on, though recent prices have left me hoarding my last few. I remember those 2003's. I have one left I haven't had the heart to smoke. They were inspired.
  2. I really love this cigar. While they're quite good with some age, honestly I love them with just a couple years on them. Nice and punchy, with bold but delicious flavors. Not always the most complex cigar, but who cares? How complex is a grilled bone in ribeye with salt and pepper? The 50 cabs from 2006 were some of the very best robustos I have EVER had. I bought 3 of them and wish I had more. They blew the Coro's out of the water and smoked great forever though they're long gone...
  3. I will gladly pay you 10,000 for that piece of art. It will go well with my spider collection an artist was kind enough to email me. Oh and Joey, nice lookin pot right there.
  4. These were among my very favorite "little" cigars back in the day. It seemed like hardly anyone smoked them 10-15 years ago, and they sat on the shelves and were quite cheap. Not for me, I went through a ton of boxes until they were, sadly, just impossible for me to find. I found them very rich and complex with age, and more than a bit of power. Floral and spicy with some earthy funk. Just a very enjoyable, unique cigar and flavor profile meant to be smoked slowly. Pungent smoke. Agree with the OSU 02 comment, those boxes were amazing and like KC said, every one was close to perfect. I still have a few left and can't bring myself to smoke them. Miss these little killers. The whole MDO medaille d'or line is among my very favorite. I just smoked a #3 this week from my singles drawer and took some notes, I'll put up a review. Miss them all.
  5. I picked a dalia and a corona gorda. I bet the farm that HSA will release a petite robusto, a robusto, and a canonazo.
  6. I had some really good boxes of these but haven't had one since my 2015 box I think, which is sadly now gone. Very consistent, enjoyable and unique flavor profile. I probably preferred the Dip 3 as far as intensity of flavor, but the Dip 2 was always a good change of pace pyramid. The blend definitely was stronger in the mid teens, though I had a box from 2006 that was really special.
  7. Very nice review. I've always loved the RyJ Churchill, such a great size and flavor profile. I have had performance issues with tubos cigars over the years if I don't dry box them for awhile first. They seem to retain moisture for quite awhile. Canoeing, going out, wonky burn. Especially with more recent vintages. I wonder if that hurt the cigar here?
  8. I really love the P2. As far as consistency, I've found it rivals the other pyramids with a nod to the Upmann #2. I find them a really rich expression of the Partagas marca. With 5+ years on them, the truffelized earthiness of Partagas comes out in spades.
  9. I used to love these, but have had the same issue with a downgrade in strength and richness the last set of years. They used to be pretty great, more in line with the BBF in body. What they've done to the Bolivar marca is a shame. Starting with the elimination of the Inmensos, but that's another bitch session.
  10. I used to smoke a decent amount of these years ago, and they were always a great change of pace cigar. As others have mentioned, salty notes dominated , almost salty sea to me, with woody umami and some cream. The hazelnut wrappers were the best.
  11. I've gone through more boxes of this than any other perla. Great smoke, rich and full of the SCDLH profile that I love. 45 minutes of strong heaven. I have to give the El Morros and the La Puntas their love. The Morros I smoked were always full of delicious, dark flavor, and the La Puntas were so consistent as a Belicosos that I always had them in stock
  12. This is a good call these are an overlooked, intense gem. Otherwise hard to not include the BBF and the Partagas P2 for richness and strength of flavor
  13. I've always really liked these, but haven't had one for years. (Box of 2014 was the last one I finished, I believe) I found them fuller and slow burning, more like a robusto, with the same profile as a Fundadore. It's a shame they've been priced out of my wheelhouse, as I loved the size and the profile. Good to see you all, I'm back from a long hiatus from all the boards but have been lurking. -Matt
