Experience with Eurocave humidors?

I think a few of our members have the Eurocave humidor but I don't see too much commentary online.

Can anyone share how these things hold up over time and also what box capacity they are good for? It says 40 boxes in the literature but I'm wondering if that is realistic. I don't store singles, btw - just boxes and cabs.

Thanks in advance!

There isnt too much commentary as they are pretty darned expensive to be using for a humidor. They are built very sturdy, more like a safe than a wine cooler. VERY heavy. Compressor based cooling with the evaporator embedded in the back and side walls. How much they hold is entirely based on which model you get. I have a 250 bottle model that is 10 years old and I expect it to still be chugging along when Im long gone, yes they are built that well! Mine will hold every bit of 200 boxes, thats a conservative estimate.

Thanks Justin - and damn that is a fine looking cabinet you have there.

I actually was looking at the dedicated humidor (http://en.eurocave.com/wine-cabinets-wine-bars/228-cigar-humidors.html) and ended up pulling the trigger and ordering one.

Should be here in 8 weeks or so and I can't wait to start filling it up.

Nice.

Ill bet if you look through their wine cabinet selection you will find the same cooler. It was nice of them to offer one up equipped for a humidor. You wont regret it. I will wager that your small humidor cabinet weighs in at every bit of 45 kilos.

Do you have to top these up with distilled water every now and again?

As with any other means of storage you have to maintain the desired level of moisture.

I took the lazy way out with this one just due to its size.

I have 4 lbs of HF beads scattered throughout, 4lbs of KL in the bottom along with an active humidifier and circulating fans. The active humidifier is a Hydra LG. I removed the floral foam that came with it and replace it with water beads like THIS.

I keep the active humidifier set on 64%. Once it was all set up, stocked and everything equalized it stays pretty level these days. Ive filled the active humidifier once other than the initial fill.
