A few recent acquisitions 1980s bottlings of Glenfiddich 15 and 18. 1980s bottling of Macallan 12 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My summer planned trip to Cuba was scuppered so I did the next best thing... a whisky buying trip/tour of Scotland! Had a great week with a mix of rain and glorious sunshine. Some great pick ups too -

Birth year tawny.

'72 is an interesting vintage as most of the port was poured down the sewer due to a bad spirit used in the wine.  Very few of that vintage survives today.   I have never tried any vintage or colheita from that vintage and always wanted to.  How is it?

No idea.  Haven't opened it yet. :)  Will advise when I do!

Some random pickups today - you never know what you will find gathering dust at the smaller bottle shops:
e245775d3b3edaa29aa1695efd1efcb5.jpg
- another bottle of the increasingly rare and expensive Ardbeg Dark Cove, last bottle at a fraction of the retail price.
- an older bottling of the Glenfarclas 12 Year Old, old stock sherry matureds are hard to come by.
- another bottle of the discontinued Glenlivet 16 Year Old Nadurra, last bottle on the shelf and something I have not seen on the shelf for a long time.

Dark Cove at a fraction of retail?!? Great deal.

interesting that the bottle does not seem to call it a colheita.

from memory, dows released a 1972 and it was not bad - not close to the 70 or 77 but probably not too far behind 75.

Many producers released a '72 vintage (and also kept pipes for colheita & tawny), but most was dumped due to poor spirit used.   Has to be the scarcest vintage since the 1960's to find.  Not even close to '70 (one of the best vintages ever) or 75/77.  From what I read, the Dow isn't be bad actually...  A little sweeter than normal Dow vintages.

Not sure why Grahams is not listing it as a Colheita.  Not calling it a Colheita use to be common in UK market, but not so much in USA...

A few bottles of the Starward 10th Anniversary, two of the "ones to drink" and two of the "ones to keep".

A limited release vatting of various casks across their first ten years. As a Melburnian, I am quite proud of the fact that this fledgling homegrown distillery has come such a long way since.

If you crack open the Courvoisier, let me know what you think of it. I have not had that one.

Like to keep some magnums around for when company is over. Ordered these and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the presentation is.

Could try your hand at converting them into humidors afterwards.
