What an Amazing topic, incredible how Many Cigars people have And very Beautiful humidors!

IT surprises me to See that lots of people have a wine-cooler as a humidor, is that better for aging?

Ontopic,

As shown in my intro page, I have a walk in humidor with an active humidifier.

Here's my Aristocrat. Two active humidifers on the bottom, three fans and temp controlled. I'd say it works great, although the humidity at to top of the unit is typically 2-3% below the bottom, where the active humidifers are located. I don't think this is a problem with the system as much as it is the fact that the thing is packed full of boxes (and it's actually quite a bit fuller now than in the pic below) and the streams of humid air have a difficult time making it up to the top shelf.

Also, while the internal fans are virtually silent, the humidifers are not and they run quite often. So much so that I wish there was a quieter option. If I were to do this over, in addition to making the unit 2x the size, I would probably ask Bob to find a quieter option for the humidifers even if that option took up more space.

Here's my Newair AW-181E Wineador I built. I lined the interior with Spanish Cedar more out of boredom than necessity.

I ordered drawers from wineadors.com to finish off the project.

For humidification I use 2.5 lbs of 65% Heartfelt beads spread throughout the cooler.

Awesome looking drawers

this strikes me as weird, but obv I don't build them for a living: shouldn't the slots be on the inside, so dividers can be inserted?

I see what ur saying but none the less i still think its quite a different design.

I've got to stop looking at these setups...as a relative newbie it would be a little over the top but at the moment I can see my collection growing a little faster than I thought a few years ago. The 50 count used to be more that enough room until somebody introdued me to some aged cigars for the first time.

Same as above. Except I use a combo of Heartfelt beads and gel. I need to use the gel in the winter to help the humidors rebound faster. Just mix PG with distilled water, pour into gel tub, good to go.

I buy the gardening/landscaping moisture crystals in bulk instead of buying those pre-filled tubs. Again, just soak the crystals in PG/DW combo and you are good to go.

VERY cheap and VERY easy to maintain.

Gonna have to try this. Makes good sense

So what is your setup?

I have a med/large end table humidor and a couple desktops as well. Will be getting an aristocrat once I fill up the end table. I have about 2lbs of Heartfelt beads in there, but I think that this particular humidor will benefit better from a good active humi setup.

Why does it work for you?

I Just don't have a huge collection yet so for now I have room for growth still.

What problems do you face if any?

In my climate the RH is extremely low. With weather fluctuations I get some variance in RH even when I'm not opening up the humidor.

I have a thread in here about my humidor with pictures.

Cheers,

Seth

It started off as a 36 bottle wine fridge. My girlfriend's father is a woodworker, so he made the shelving for me. The "stain" was just from wiping it down with distiller water. It's not really a stain. I am keeping the hydration in check with kitty litter for now, but I will be springing for an Oasys setup soon enough.

Be nice to see them on display but I can see them in my mind :)

36-Bottle wineador. Custom made drawers with black stained faces and brushed chrome handles. Each drawer holds roughly 150+ cigars. I also keep a basic 100 ct desktop at my office. Very basic humidors and works well for a smaller collection of cigars.

Living in Florida, temperature control is of the upmost importance and why I recently went from a cabinet to wine cooler.

I use KL and Brovedas to humidify. The Unit has 3 fans at every level and circulates well. I use KL in drawers and in the very bottom. The RH is consistent at each level. Brovedas are added to boxes in the winter as a precaution as RH drops. Summer months(10 months) is all about keeping RH down. KL works great as a 2-way system. Many may think I wouldnt trust KL with my cigars, but I've tried beads and it's all the same. KL is just cheaper.

As you can see, majority of my cigars at this time are NC's. Since January I found a revived obsession of CC's and have bought a few boxes. Excited to see if they are what I remember 10-12 yrs ago when I smoked only CC's.

Been smoking for slightly more than a year now. running a small 25ct desktop for singles, a 150ct desktop for boxes/box splits (i have to take the cigars out of their boxes tho) and a tupperdor for my meager NC and non FoH buys tongue.png

as for humidification, i use 69rh bovedas with xigar gel crystals. humidity is around 67-68rh at 31'C.

might want to get lower rh bovedas tho, just to test it out.

my humis are nearly full and i dont want to risk overcrowding, so im on a lookout for a decent end table or >400ct humi. large cabinets are a no-no, wifey will slit my throat in my sleep tantrum.giftantrum.gif

Sleep with one eye open: less sleep more humidor space.

Both eyes closed: logistics problems but better sleep.

We'll all always have problems; It's all about the quality of your problems :)
