Bolivar Royal Corona 

Pre light open draw with big flavors of leather, salt and pepper. Start time 4:58 p.m.

Cigar has an easy draw making lots of thick smoke. The Retrohale is very pleasant, smooth and rich, olfactory picking up leather, dark coffee bean and hints of french vanilla ice cream. Sea salt, leather, cedar and a hints of Semi sweet dark choc on palette. Reached band at 5:46 promptly removed band without hesitation or incident. This one is a nubber. Last 3rd getting hot and spongey. Laid it down at 5:59 p.m. Total elapsed time 61 mins.

I chose a Partagas SD4 for my Saturday morning smoke on this beautiful Chicago morning. I have to say, this is probably my favorite cigar so far, and every cigar from this box has been amazing.

I'm not going to offer a review as my palate is probably one small step up from a corpse, and I have no ability to differentiate individual flavors in anything. That said, this might be one of the best examples I've had to date.

total smoke time was about 1 hour, 20 minutes.

Hoyo Epicure #2

First ever epi 2 I have smoked. Enjoyed with my morning coffee.

1st 3rd Mild cigar right from the start. Vegetal taste immediate from the get go. 

2nd 3rd Really digging the characteristics of the epi 2. Floral notes in and out. Not showing any signs of its young age. ('16) Fully enjoying.

Last didn't want cigar to end was enjoying greatly. Still mild all the way through. Had maybe 3 drags of bitterness toward the end but it surprisingly cleared itself and was back to heavenly mildness. Will definitely be stocking up on some of these in the future.

First up after work yesterday was a PSP BRC, ULA OCT14.  These have the most NC like draw out of any cubans I've tried.  But I love these cigars.  Medium bodied from light till finish.  Smoke output was fantastic, burn was razor sharp.  The smoke was very creamy in texture.  The flavors didn't change one bit, which normally would be a bit disappointing.  However the flavors were so good it didn't bother me that this was a one hit wonder (it was a hit after all).

Bit of dark chocolate, cream, earth, and a hint of white pepper throughout.  I've got 16 or so left from this box and I must say that they've evolved greatly from when I've received the box.  This one may not have been a good example to go on a journey with, but man what I got out of it was on point and damn enjoyable.

I give it a 94/100.  I'm not sure if this box is going to evolve much beyond the 95 mark.  Probably will be my go-to box next summer to end it.  

I was surprised that the burn time came in at 61 minutes.  Normally they had been a shorter smoke, not by much, but happy for that amount of time.

Also tried out a new flavored beer.  Tastes like a flat Mellow Yellow.  Kinda dig it.

After the BRC I had a PSD#4, seconds BUM ABR14.  Now I prefer the D4 with a really oily and dark wrapper.  These are way off the mark but are decently oily, and I knew I wasn't getting the ideal wrapper but these have been mighty tasty.  And for the price I don't mind giving these out to friends--and yes I will horde the PSP ones to myself and may give a few of them to select friends lol.

Anyways back to this cigar.  Totally different draw, easy but firm.  Definitely your typical cuban draw.  Smoke was oily and ok output but not as good as the BRC.  Unlike the BRC the flavors lasted a very long time in the mouth after a puff.  Burn was excellent but not as razor sharp as the BRC.

There was 1 transition with this cigar at the final third.  THe first 2/3 of the cigar I got a peppery spice, earth, and a hint of coffee.  The final third the coffee notes asserted itself and the spice went to the background.  Enough to know it's there but way down in power.  Body started out at medium and ended at medium-full.  No strength whatsoever (which is my preference).

I give it a 90/100.  Excellent cigar, but I've had much better D4s and I know these are just a bit off the mark.  That said the cigars were a fantastic value and been enjoyable.  I don't see these improving much more so this will be a box I'm going to empty this summer.  The good news is I've got a PSP box (RUS Jul14) to replace this one when it's empty.

Burn time was 55 minutes.  Really surprised that this one finished more quickly than the BRC.  But it is what it is.

I also had 2 NC robustos today golfing.  Both were 50-55 minute smokes.

Partagas Serie D No. 4 - OPA AGO 09.  Stored at 65% RH and about 70F in a Xiikar portable humidor for the last 2 weeks.  Nice wrapper with sheen; straight Colorado in color.  Construction is great.  Guillotine cut with a very easy draw. 

Paired with a cup of black coffee in the back yard.  (The cigar stood up to it.)  A bit breezy at times.  Cigar needed 2 re-lights.  

Creamy smoothness in the opening, giving way to discerned flavors of bell pepper, paprika, and a bit of breadiness.  Cigar was tasty all the way through, with the various flavors taking turns on center stage.  92 points.

Thought I'd have a bit of fun and test something out, so yesterday i fired up a psd4 on the front nine and it lasted me q hour 25 minutes and change. No pics, but I wanted to test a theory with a box of rass I have that I suspect are underfilled. Smoking that one now and anticipate it will last less than an hour. The psd4 was impeccable. Leather and sourdough all the way like an old reliable friend.  I've never gotten the bell pepper that you guys all rave about, but that's just me. I'll post the rass next.

The Cigar smoked the same pretty much throughout from start to finish. Pure tobacco and earth. Very monotone. No nuance of flavor. They are what they are...

Just finished the rass.  Definitely underfilled. A cab I bought from 2013 from someone other than prez. While good, the star of the show was the firestone walker California quad  (nicknamed stickee monkey) which tips the scales around 14 percent abv with a lovely sweetness. The beer perfectly compliments the dates and prune flavor of the cigar. However, the cigar. Needed to be touched up nearly every 10 minutes, and partially due to the lighter treatment, was discarded after 48 minutes and 39 seconds. Not bad, great flavor, but squishy after the first third. Would buy again if a good box came along. I would love to see how it feels to smoke one without constantly reaching for the torch.

Total time 87 minutes. It was a bit warm out, so may have smoked a tad quicker than usual, but an hour and a half seems about right for me. In any event the cigar was superb.

This PSD4 (OBM SEP 15) had some amazing flavors of leather and a bit of vanilla with a dash of pepper, but the burn was a little wonky throughout. The draw was also a little tighter then I like even after using my Perfectdraw. Overall very nice evening.

Diplomaticos Excelencia RE Cuba 2015

Picked the ugliest one to smoke ROTT and it was fantastic. The base was typical Diplomatico baking spice and roasted paprika, but with a distinct sweet cream character that evolved and peaked near the midpoint. Surprisingly, it became milder as it progressed. Not much evolution in the types of flavors present, but it was so good that I certainly didn't mind. 

With some time to round out the rough edges, I expect these to be spectacular.

Bolivar Royal Corona (ETP MAR 16)

This is the third stick that I've smoked from this box.  The first, which was smoked after a 30-day acclimation period, was "meh".  Not very good, to be honest.  The second stick was smoked after about 6 months in the humidor.  It was much better, but still not great.  The cigars are still fairly young with roughly 15 months of age.  However, this third stick was very enjoyable.  The draw was easy, but not too loose.  The burn was pretty even (only requiring a couple of touch-ups).  And the flavors (which were predominantly leather, earth and cream throughout the 1st, 2nd and final third) were bold and well defined with no rough edges or bitterness.    

Total smoking time from start to finish was 74 minutes.

Excellent! As regards correlations, I would have liked to see if there was any between ambient humidity and smoking time.  More science in the future!

This is actually something that I've been amazed by since I started smoking cigars. It took me awhile but I've found the pace that works best for me. That being said, after smoking with many people who are much more knowledgeable and much bigger collectors than I am and have seen them (in my opinion) waste good cigars, I realize everyone has their own way of smoking. Case in point, I was introduced by a mutual friend to someone and we did a pretty big trade of Cubans. His collection and knowledge was far superior to mine and after he traded me lots of good LE's and regional releases for my regular production stuff, we sat down to smoke. I had a PSP2 that I got from him and he lit up a Lusi that I gave him. I kid you not, he smoked that Lusi in a flat 45 minutes and managed to work in three Marlboros (double fisting style) while he did that. He has halfway through an HU Connie 1 before I put down my PSP2. To each their own, I suppose, but if I'm going to take the time to smoke something worthwhile, I'll prefer to savor it.

I went with a PSD4, purchased here from 24:24 earlier this year. PSD4 was my first Cuban, courtesy of @wabashcr. Got me on the bus and here I am, a closet full of cigars later. This particular cigar came from a 3/16 MEG box, but they've been smoking so well I can't bring myself to let them age. This one was no different. Almost 90 minutes on the nose, which I would say is dead on for me with a Robusto. Interesting to see how that seems to be the average. I only wonder if the "one hour for a robusto" doesn't account for the fact that I (and apparently so many of us) smoke it down to the nub. Maybe the one hour rule applies to those wasteful people who put it down before the final third. I've always felt that the final third is the big payoff, when the best flavors shine through.

I went with an Epi 2, MEL DIC 15. Stored at 65 rh in a constant 75 degree room. Typical Hawaiian summer afternoon, so I’d guess outside humidity to be mid-to-high 60’s. Total time was 1:05, and I nubbed it pretty good.

This one wasn’t quite as vibrant in taste as the last one I pulled from the box a few weeks ago, which was just outstanding with a very distinct toasted coconut element. That was the first time I was able to connect this unique taste with something in my memory bank. Still, this one was very good, and quite smooth and creamy, and the draw/burn/smoke output was near perfect. I really enjoyed the nice transition I experienced. It started out cedar and sandalwood, with the wonderful toasted coconut in the background. As I passed the mid point, brown sugar entered the picture and slowly ramped up, and the cedar faded in the background, replaced by a more nutty element. Wonderful aroma throughout. I’d give it a 90.

As a side note, the postman displayed impeccable timing by delivering my FOH ashtray and lighter today

Great excuse to try the first Cohiba Robusto out of a fresh box I received from our host.
Cohiba Robusto BMP OCT 16
In the humidor July 5th smoked July 15th. (10 days to acclimate...not enough)
Dry boxed for approximately 12 hours.
Start time 10:29pm EST
Cold draw: grass, Cohiba spice(can't really explain it but very distinct)
Punched and ignition with matches.
Draw: perfect. Not too firm just a nice little resistance.
1st third: grassiness and spice.

2nd third: required a little touch up most likely due to smoking almost ROTT, the construction was good. Started to pick up in intensity to medium-full, more sweetness coming through maybe honey? More of the same from the first third.
Final 3rd: cigar was the best at this point. Flavours were a little easier to pick out compared to the muddled 2nd third. Honey, grassiness, and toasted Cohiba tobacco.

End time: 11:55pm
Total time: 86mins
Cigar needs some time down to truly shine. I very much see the potential with this box of CoRo.

Hi all ended up pretty much how I suspected great thread no real answer here no right or wrong everyone is different what ever floats your boat here's my 2c worth must admit was slightly quicker than expected usually average 45-55 min well it is winter here maybe that's the difference this time also includes drink refills and toilet break haven't had a Cohiba robusto in some time this is an aged number about 5-6!years old 

Classic cohiba robusto a bit of clove and aged wood and cocoa onnaroma and classic cohiba grassy wood and a bit of earthyness towards the end all in all a fantastic smoke wish I had more cheers all and good luck ?
