Currency management for an American in Cuba

I intend to travel in July to Habana and PdR (hometown). So would I benefit to get CAD here at my bank and trade it over there? I might be able to get some black market exchanges once I hit PdR with family knowing people around town that exchange currency. I've heard of 95 CUC for $100 USD. They particularly want bigger bills $50s and$100 dollar bills. From what my mom told me, they sent those bigger bills abroad. (i.e. Venezuela)

Personally I'm skeptical and if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. I'm going with wife and 3 kids. Not sure someone is gonna have 6k to swap with me or if I want anyone knowing im carrying large sums of USD. Thoughts?
