Montecristo No. 4 MUL MAY 14 Double Review

Recommended Posts

I received just 2 boxes Monte 4 which I got after hearing from Rob how great the Monte 4 is at this moment.

Both look great even the wrapper color is quite different between these 2 boxes.

Box code on both is MUL MAY 14

One I would judge as Claro/Colorado-Claro the other one as Colorado.

Very excited to try them to see how they are and if there is a difference between them.

That's when I thought why not do a double review.

Review 1

Box Code MUL MAY 14 (box 1, lighter wrapper)

Morning at 9 am

Paired with water

Smoking time 1:05 h

Cigar is nicely packed, slightly oil shine, and a nice barnyard smell at cold.

Wrapper colour is Claro/Colorado-Claro.

First light and I am greeted with smooth milk coffee and chocolate.

What a nice surprise. Have to restrict myself not to rush.

The ash is white and I'm surprised to see some "magic" pearls.

After an inch dark chocolate is coming in and a slight spice tickling.

With the spices there I guessed it shows the youth of the cigar, but at halfway point the spice disappeared

and the coffee and chocolate is back in full swing.

Some touch up are needed around halfway point which could be the cigar or the air humidity but it doesn't disturb the enjoyment.

At the last third the cigar gets quite strong on flavor and a bit of nicotine.

Put it to rest after 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Truly enjoyed this one.

This one is already very good in my books.

Some pictures below.

Thanks for reading.

Review 2

Box Code MUL MAY 14 (box 2 darker wrapper)

Morning at 10 am

Paired with coffee and water

Smoking time 1 h

Cigar is also nicely packed, has more oil to the shine, smell at cold quite similar with a slight salty taste.

Wrapper colour is Colorado

First light and I am again nicely greeted milk coffee and chocolate, so more intense and thicker smoke.

The burn is difficult. Trust it is related to the more oily wrapper.

Ash is darker and flaky, drops with less than an inch.

But this one is so more intense. A Coffee-Chocolate Party.

Entering the 2nd third it gets a bit smoother with toasted bread and chocolate.

Wrapper burns slower and on que at half way point she goes out. Relight.

End 2nd third, some new flavors coming in, can't define what it is. Some very slight spices, tickling on the tongue.

Last third and she gets stronger. Feels like coffee with bread dough. Chocolate and Coffee still there.

Just below one inch and I set her down.

Another very good one. IMO event a bit better than the first one.

Now, now Werner. Was a tongue in cheek.

  • 2 months later...

I finally found a couple of days in a row I could smoke the 2 Montes which Werner had so kindly provided me.

Smoked the darker wrapper stick yesterday followed by the lighter wrapper stick today.

The darker one was rich and full right out of the gate and delivered throughout the smoke. The lighter one did not have quite the depth of character or taste of the darker one.

Both good smokes but definitely different experiences. Thanks Optic :)

I don't know how anyone can get cigars of the size to smoke for an hour. Looking forward to receiving my 2 boxes as well.

Tongue in cheek, I'm assuming? I don't think I could smoke a Mareva in less than an hour if I tried!
