  1. A few days ago I smoked a Vegueros Especiales no. 1. I did have to use a draw tool to open it up a bit, but well worth it. Have a nearly full box of these from 2001. What a superb smoke.
  2. Five Aussie surgeons from big cities are discussing what type of person makes the best patient to operate on. The first surgeon, from Brisbane, says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered." The second, from Perth, responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is co lour coded." The third surgeon, from Adelaide , says, "No, I really think librarians are the best! Everything inside them is in alphabetical order." The fourth surgeon, from Sydney chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers...Those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over.' But the fifth surgeon, from Melbourne , shut them all up when he observed: 'You're all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains, and no spine... Plus, the head and the arse are interchangeable
  3. i have visited 4 or 5 cigar divans in Hong Kong when I traveled there on business back in the late 90's, early 2000. The one I was most impressed with was Cigarro. Tremendous selection of vintage cigars and hard to find cigars. The lounge was well appointed, but the private lockers were amazing. They were some form of see through plastic or acrylic material. Hong Kong has some very serious cigar collectors and Cigarro is the home to some of those folks.
  4. A friend just returned from the Habanos Festival and toured the La Corona factory. He noticed the large freezing room was not operational due to a mechanical issue. Another reason to freeze your cigars that originate from Cuba.
  5. around 2010, there was a site (no longer in biz) that had a very large quantity of cigars with box codes from 1998 - 2000. It was like they had bought all the cigars that failed quality control or were suspected of being poor quality. You could buy a dress box of Punch DC's for about $150. The prices across the board for these cigars was about half of the going prices in 2010. About 1/3 of the cigars I bought (and I bought around 30 boxes) were very tight and not worth smoking. I did however get about 9 boxes or Punch selection No.11 for $105 a box that smoked very well. the risk in getting plugged cigars from that date range is high. buyer beware.
  6. my favorites: "went to bed at 2 with a 10 and woke up at 10 with a 2" (Willie nelson) "Take me drunk, I'm home" "you can't argue with a sick mind" (Joe Walsh) "Vision without execution is really just a hallucination" Steve Case, AOL Founder "the farther up the flag pole you go, the more people that can see your ass"
  7. Unless one was required to show date of purchase, who would know when the cigars were acquired? Even then, a buyer is likely not to care if they were bought prior to 2015.
  8. After using a traditional smoker (with a firebox on the side) for 8+ years, I made a tough decision to switch to pellet smoker. The Old Country smoker I bought from Academy Sporting Goods fell apart with rust. Would never buy this brand again. I really liked using real Pecan and Oak, but it was a lot of work when smoking briskets or other larger items as it was at least a 10 hour effort. After looking at numerous pellet smokers, I went with a Traeger Pro Series 34. Used it twice since I made the purchase 3 weeks ago. Smoked a brined turkey that came out well. Then 2 briskets and 4 slabs of ribs. I found some temperature fluctuations but not enough to worry about. It is a fairly painless way to smoke meat. Just set the temperature (can also use the meat probes) and check every few hours.
  9. Chamberlains has good steaks and in the cigar lounge you can smoke and eat your steak. You can also bring your own cigars.
  10. Occasionally, I will do a credit card split if among 3-4 friends. One bill, the amount is split 4 ways equally with credit cards. This seems to be fine by most restaurants in the US. This is sometimes necessary if dining on an expense account for work. Seems the picture taking of food is for Facebook purposes. Really, I don't give a damn what you ate last night and certainly don't need to see it either. No patience for individuals who get their panties in a wad over a few bucks. So what if you didn't order a salad and everyone else did. Take the long view on life my friends. Now, I can take issue if I am with a group and one person decides they want to drink multiple bottles of expensive wine ($100+) without getting buy in from the other guests or offering to kick in a few extra bucks.
  11. I really wish we would get off the Cuba rhetoric. The embargo has not worked. And, based on this recent position, the US could possibly put an embargo on Nicaragua. That would really limit what cigars could be imported to the USA !!
  12. Mine is about 18 months old and is the M plus THC. I have two pull out drawers and 3 shelves that also can be pulled out (you want this). I bought this one to replace my Aristocrat end table humidor (holds about 35 boxes). Well, after consolidating from the end table humidor and 4 lockers at the cigar club, I ended up with almost no room left in the M + humidor. So, as others had stated, buy more than you think you need. Currently I have roughly 74 boxes (including loose cigars in the 2 drawers) in the M+ humidor and 30 boxes in the end table humidor. Since I live in the Dallas area, I was able to use a moving van to bring the M plus to my home. It did take 3 full sized men to get this into my home. I wanted it upstairs but realized we didn't have enough muscle, so I settled for downstairs bedroom. Bob Staebell is a very talented wood worker and humidor builder. He does a fair amount of custom woodwork in addition to humidors.
  13. I really like the Le Hoyo des Dieux which is a "long" corona. While it appears to be officially still in production, I haven't seen them for sale in a long time. I like the wrapper, binder, filler ration of a smaller gauge cigar like the corona. While I do enjoy larger gage cigars (46 -52), I like them to be at least 5.5" in length.
  14. "Vision without execution is really just a hallucination" The man on top of the mountain did not fall there. The farther up the flagpole you go, more people can see your ass. Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
  15. I also live in the Dallas metroplex and bought my first end table humidor from Bob about 12 years ago. Last year I had to go by his facility to have him make a small repair and noticed a MXT 26.5 humidor in the front part of his office. It was a trade-in (less than 3 years old) and in excellent condition. We worked out a deal and I bought it. He upgraded the temp and humidity devices so this was like a brand new unit. I really wanted the temperature control as I really don't have a location in my home where I can keep the temperature under 74 in the summer (unless I want to pay $900 a month electric bill). The only downside is the unit totally full of cigars; time to start planning for a MXT Plus.
  16. An Australian man’s pet crocodile in the Northern Territory ate his beloved dog after she spent a decade tormenting it, and onlookers watched in horror. complete story: https://www.yahoo.com/news/pet-crocodile-eats-beloved-dog-131225735.html What the hell was this guy thinking?
  17. Three guitarist that are often overlooked are: Robin Trower Ronnie Montrose Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) They have a unique sound and technique that set them apart in my opinion. I have see the first two live several times. Amazing. I would also say that Alvin Lee from Ten Years After and Kim Simmonds from Savoy Brown are top guitarists.
  18. Though I have not seen anything official, it appears the Saint Luis Rey double corona and A are long gone. Wish these and the Quai D'orsay imperiales were still around. Just glad I still have 4 boxes of the QD imperiales left.
  19. I made a bunch of "best of" tapes with this Radio Shack 8 track recorder. Still have it, but after years in the attic, it may not work.
  20. There are several memorable cigar divans in Hong Kong, but the one I enjoyed the most was Cigarro. The selection was quite impressive, with some rare and aged cigars for sale. The private humidors are clear allowing you to see what is stored inside. Some very impressive collections. Nice comfortable chairs and friendly staff too.
