  1. I use only circle hooks offshore here in SE Florida. I've not noticed any additional loss of fish compared to J hooks I use to use many years ago. The thing about circle hooks is you don't "set the hook" like a J hook. If you do, you'll pull it right out of the fish's mouth. Instead you just reel. That's right, just reel up tight to the fish and keep reeling. You want the hook sliding to the corner of the mouth where the point will grab and fight away. The whole point of circle hooks is to keep from gut hooking the fish. Started in the billfish tournament so the fish could be released unharmed. I've only had a few out of hundreds of fish gut hooked with the circle. And that includes bottom fishing for snapper and grouper along with trolling for sails and dolphin.
  2. I'll make the treacherous drive down I-95 to join you gents for the afternoon. Count me in. Brett
  3. I've smoked cigars in all my trucks and my wife's SUVs. On my bird hunting trips, my buddy and I smoke a couple cigars a day in it travelling to our spots. If you sat in my truck, you'd never know I smoke in it. Here is the key, leave all the windows cracked an inch or so when you park it(at night too). If its sunny out, the closed windows will bake the smell in. Vented windows allow the smoke smell to dissipate. And ash out the windows....no portable ashtrays in the vehicle.
  4. From being the projected landing spot a few days ago in Jupiter to looking like it'll skirt past us.....keeping my fingers crossed.
  5. Sending the happiest of birthday wishes to you, Di! Brett
  6. Been there, done that. Daughters each had one when they were young teenagers. Let me say this, I appreciated that they only live a few years lol. The oldest had a couple ferrets after college. Let me say this.....I wish the ferrets lifespan was as short as the rats.
  7. Lately is been Partagas shorts and BBF for me. Just depends on how much time I've got to enjoy one.
  8. I'll usually smoke a couple cigars during a round. But like many others, I dont typically smoke my better ones due to the wind and laying them down often. I most often smoke NCs for that reason. Along with the fact they have wrappers, which keep them in better shape prior to lighting. As far as choice, I usually enjoy a Fuente anejo or Ashton aged Maduro on the front nine, then a Nub on the back.
  9. Nice draw and smoke until halfway. Then bitter harshness took over and I tossed the last third. SOM Feb 17.....won't revisit for another year.
  10. Let me ask a question I've not seen asked. I've got a small closet humidor that is 2' x 3' x 14' tall. Aside from the RH issue, is it recommended to circulate the air? I'm in Florida and the humidifier fan only kicks on sporadically due to our higher humidity. I'll open it every few days and a gallon of water in the humidifier lasts a couple months. So not a lot of air movement. I've got a small computer fan I'm thinking of leaving on 24/7 or on a timer. What are your thoughts on the additional air movement?
  11. Looks like Captain and I may be teaming up as we found out we are neighbors Backbone, what part of south Florida? I'm up in north Palm Beach Co.
  12. Count me in 🙂 I'll make sure to still be at my Florida home to be in the saltwater category. Should still be some sailfish around along with plenty of mahi.
  13. Just received my cab of Epi Especial that I purchased last summer on 2424. It was stored in the online humidor until I was able to store it. Was going to let them acclimate a month or so then try one. Couldn't wait, so torched one up tonight. Oh my, what a smooth smoke. First Cuban I've had with more than 3.5 yrs of age. Wow, what a treat! Slight cocoa, graham cracker and caramel. These have to be at their peak. Best Cuban I've had to date.
  14. I get down 3-4 times a year to Key West as my brother has a place there. I second La Liga booth on Duvall. Also stop by Firefly for the fresh fried pork rinds....delish. And the Green Parrot bar always has the best live music. Have fun.
  15. I'm a Fedora guy. I've had this one before Indiana Jones was crackin' his whip.
  16. Michigan passed that same law about 15 yrs ago with the smoking ban. Any cigar bar had to generate 10% of the revenue from cigar sales. My favorite cigar bar, the Sequoia Lounge in Flint Michigan, also served food from the attached steakhouse. Well, they couldn't maintain the 10% rule, so they lost their cigar license. What was once a stellar cigar bar with food, spirits and live music is no more. I stop by there just to have a beer and remember the packed house on Thursdays and Saturdays my wife and I use to enjoy with some great live bands. Met some lifelong friends there. Such a shame they had to lose their cigar license....sigh.
  17. For the championship game. And what a first half so far. Bolivar Belicoso finos (ETP May 17) from our host. Just as great as the game.
  18. Party Lusi (PUR May 17) for the boat ride. Great burn and smoke dispite the breeze.
  19. Some smaller smokes for those shorter windows or last cigar of the day.
  20. Starting to get some age on my stash Mar 16 RJ Belicoso
