  2. HDM Palmas Extra BUP NOV 17 (40 x 140) (5.5") (Cremas) (Corona) 62% humidity / 60 degrees Fahrenheit Kept in Daniel Marshall 165 count humidor for the past couple of months. Purchased from FOH. Draw at cold: Medium to tough drag Taste at cold: earl grey tea Aroma at cold: hay / sweet tobacco / new book Construction: looks decent My cut: basic, created some loose ends, nothing some saliva won’t fix Paired with a 1L Smeraldina artesian water. Product of Sardinia, Italy. Total dissolved solids: 133 Mg/L. Produced 06/07/17. 6:18 p.m. Lit using a long form match Used a second match really quickly to make sure all is lit Wonderful light tobacco odor from the lit cigar Initial puffs hint at sweetness Delicate taste lingers in mouth for about two minutes Ash ring made even after several puffs alone 6:25 p.m. Sweetness is driving towards heartiness. Looks like savory is the next exit. 6:27 p.m. Just like how salt brings out flavor in ingredients, the same reaction seems to have taken place. Been about 10 minutes now, and I’ve taken about 10-12 puffs (In my opinion, this equals taking my time). The slower pace may be allowing flavors to bloom at right intervals and marry accordingly. A bit of paprika and cream. 6:34 p.m. The right side of my tongue quietly says lemon tart The left replies baking soda 6:36 p.m. Arisen from slumber is the tip of the tongue, it seconds the right side 6:37 p.m. Earl grey makes an appearance again 6:38 p.m. Open bottle, take swig, cleanses palette, leaves no trace that water was there except for moistness. 6:40 p.m. Ash is about 1 inch. Beautiful, even burn. Tip color is cake grey, with edge nearest unburnt leaf prominently white. 6:42 p.m. Retro Hale introduces me to an ammonia that isn’t an enemy but not one you would prefer to hang out with. 6:45 p.m. Not lit. Ammonia was a sign? Not sure. Let’s try and relight without disturbing this ash companion of ours. Fail. 6:47 p.m. A new smaller set of matches have been brought out since long ones have finished. Relit with one match. Tried my best not to impart much flame so flavor is not muddled with an over-burnt taste. 6:50 p.m. Gentle puffs have brought this baby to a similar state as it was before. 6:52 p.m. The 2nd third is beginning. A hay taste, perhaps due to relighting causing a dryer taste. 6:54 p.m. Another swig of water. Much needed for coating the throat. And another one, due to pure thirst. Just realized I’ve barely drank anything today. Half a liter drunk at this point. 6:57 p.m. Puffs are becoming frequent. This is a great cigar. For a relatively “basic” Cuban, this has enjoyable written all over it. 7:06 p.m. Past 10 minutes have been a delight. Bits of sour; bits of black tea to calm. This is great quality tobacco. 7:09 p.m. Sweetness has decided to show face. Brown sugar. But the amount that a health conscious person would prefer. 7:10 p.m. Light coffee. With a splash of cream. 7:11 p.m. Can I live off this? 7:13 p.m. Smoke is silky. Hint of bitterness. Smoke is a bit sharp versus pleasant in first half. 7:17 p.m. Inch long ash has fallen. Nearing the entrance of the last third. 7:18 p.m. 1 hour mark calls for some water. 7:19 p.m. Couple puffs’ tastes and smells remind me of burning charcoal and the salty air by the ocean. 7:21 p.m. I’m releasing the smoke slowly while cigar in mouth creating an engulfing experience with the smoke. 7:22 p.m. Though ash is 2 inches away from tip, cigar hasn’t gotten warm. 7:23 p.m. Though I usually take the band off by now or even earlier, I’ve scooted mine down to keep it on longer. 7:25 p.m. Realizing that this has been swerving slowly between savory and sweet with black tea being the lane divider. No police in sight. 7:27 p.m. The levitating taste of ammonia appears and lingers near the lips with a slight murmur. 7:29 p.m. And the warmth of the end has begun to show face leaving the front edges of the tongue as well as the roof of the mouth tingling. 7:33 p.m. Tangy and spicy tobacco. 7:35 p.m. Kind of like the numbing sensation of Szechuan pepper. 7:37 p.m. I’m committed to not ashing and not drinking water until finished so this spiciness isn’t affected. 7:38 - 7:45 p.m. Level of enjoyment is growing and growing. I am now at one with this cigar. The flavors are becoming more and more intense. Black tea has made a surprising comeback. These flavors remind me strangely of high end department store carpet. Finished (87 minutes total). This Habano has definitely made a friend out of me. Rating: 93/100

  4. Very, very hard question. I ended up choosing smooth. BUT, I do like it crunchy, and if I were to choose crunchy, I would prefer a light crunch rather than a chunky crunch.
