settled down last night to watch 'from russia with love' - had not seen it for years. three seconds in, i realised that i needed a cigar and a drink so a good bourbon and a small sig and we were away. you just have to love the old bond.

The Connery Bonds are simply some of the most entertaining and stylish movies ever made, IMO. Craig seems off to a good start and probably more in line with Flemings novels.

Conory made the bond franchise IMO. I liked Craigs first one but the last was lacking something. The Brosnan films was in that cheesy era, shame because he would have made a good film with less cheese factor. Looks like it's all on hold untill someone stumps up with some more cash. Would have been a cash cow for MGM over the years so I can't imagine that's the last of it forever.

Timothy Dalton is the ONLY REAL 007!! :P

No, isn't George Lazenby THE GREATEST BOND ever!? :D

Gotta love his over enthusiastic and cheesy way of saying: "Bond, James Bond!".

I myself have the complete Bond collection on DVD and love them all (Except Lazenbys)

From Russia with love is one of Connerys best IMO along with Thunderball.

Its a tough call between Connery and Daniel Craig.

Connery was a man *****, gotta love that. :2thumbs:

didn't think lazenby that bad, but he was the first bond i saw. he was offered a second but turned it down. perhaps he should have. connery and craig top the list though i did think that dalton was very good also. every time i saw brosnan, i just kept seeing him as remington steele and it destroyed the whole thing. worst by far, roger moore. turned bond into a clown and can never be forgiven for that. shame as otherwise, always been a big fan of moore.

thought craig's performance in the first excellent and that might just be the best bond film of all but the director, and serious lack of plot, stuffed up quantum of solace totally.

I agree about Daniel Craig, Casino Royale was a perfect James Bond movie, the way it was written and intended by Ian Flemmings novel of the same name. DC was a little rough around the edges which made his character all the more believable and what helped was the scripting and the way it was filmed by way of direction.

I enjoyed Quantum of Solace however left the cinema feeling like something was missing from the overall plot and the way it was filmed.

I really am looking forward to the next installment, hopefully the sooner, the better.

Roger Moore was my favourite Bond for that very reason. The tasteless jokes and horrendous puns, the constant levity, etc. Bond always seemed like a well-meant jape to me anyway (not unlike Adam West's Batman). But I've never read Fleming's work.

Without Roger Moore, there would be no Austin Powers......

It's interesting when you discover that Flemming had a failed attempt at the secret service, and never could get over it...

Casino Royale was excellent,Quantom of Solace-Scrotum of Porridge....

In a similar vein, the BBC radio 4 have recently been serialising The complete Smiley,by John Le Carre,(not with Alec Guinness),which has been gripping listening.

Dunno how available the BBC listen again service is worldwide(probably have to pay) but the stories are definitely worth a listen.

I have yet to hear the show hoever do have access to BBC radio 4 via my iPhone. I'll keep a look out for the show.

SBS2 had an interesting program on Thursday about Dusko Popov, the Serbian double agent who is said to have inspired Ian Fleming to create James Bond. Quite a fascinating life I must say, spying for both the Germans and the British, while keeping up his cover as a playboy. I immediately went and ordered the book about him, Codename Tricycle, http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/97818...dename-Tricycle.

i taped it and watched half so far. extraordinary stuff. meant to order a book re him so many thanks.

and tonight, 'you only live twice' on - meant to tape it but was working abnd missed first hour.

(Ken) I watched your pal George Lazenby once again last night, on Her majesties Secret Service and I still stand by what I have previously stated. The worst James Bond character and movie of them all.

Even Tally Savallas playing as Blowfeld wasn't all that 'Cooky' compared to the other villains.

It must be the Cravat? :rotfl:

i taped it and looking forward to watching it soon.

to be fair to him, tough gig to follow connery and at least he didn't make bond a clown, which moore did.

my order is connery, craig, dalton, brosnan=lazenby, moore.

i have lazenby and brosnan equal only because i struggled so much with brosnan as i thought he tried to hard and every time i saw him, i kept thinking how good he was as remington steele. he was also by far the most pompous of them all and bond is anything but pompous. but by the end of his time, i was starting to like him.

I guess when you put it that was, by way of how hard it must have been following in Connery.... I will concur somewhat. :rotfl:

I think overall, I liked Brosnan but in saying that he did lack the masculinity that Connery, Lazenby, Dalton and Craig all shared. Roger Moore was a little 'British' for my liking however I wouldn't say he's my least favourite.

My favourites would be:

1: Connery

1: Craig

2: Brosnan.

3: Dolton

4: Moore

5: Lazenby

Perhaps Brosnans role looked less serious as a result of those writing the scripts. He's lines often ended up cheesy compared to Connery's short yet sweet quotes that I found quite amusing.

+1 to that, Ken. From Russia With Love is one of my favorites. I actually sat down and watched a Connary 007 marathon this past Saturday which was sweet. Then they played other bond movies and it ruined my afternoon! ;)

Ken, a classic amongst them all is what I'm just watching now!

Thunderball ;)

From Russia with love is an all time favorite but Thunderball would be equally up there and is said to be Connerys favorite of them all.

It even has (And I'm young but still appreciate him) Tom Jones singing the opening theme credits. :2thumbs:

Thunderball is sweeeettt!

I saw you only live twice on TV the other day which I have never seen even though Austin Powers is based off that movie. It was cool, like the girl in it too! ;)
