Vacation Cigars

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Just returned from a great vacation in Spain and Portugal. My wife and I had a wonderful time!

I was also lucky enough to take some time out to enjoy some great cigars, no official reviews as I was just enjoying the moments I had but thought I would share what I had there....Here is a quick recap:

My first Behike, while it was an amazing quality and perfect construction cigar, I was looking for a little more complexity. It really didn't develop for me. Maybe I was anticipating more, but for the price I think these should really wow us each time.

Partagas P1

My favorite cigar of the trip! Actually one of my best of the year. Loved it. These are special.

Got to have a Spain regional while in Spain. I paired this with a local Rosado wine and enjoyed every minute of the 2 hours. My second favorite of the trip, everyone who jumped on these are lucky!

Another nice walk around cigar, this guy was full bodied and full of rich choclate and spice. It grabbed my attention early.

This was the ugly stick of the trip, but a great tasting smoke!

All in all a great trip and some fabulous smokes. So thankful to have an understanding wife that is cool with a few hours in the afternoon to relax with me while I enjoy. I'm sure that new handbag I got her helps with her understanding :2thumbs:

Barcelona is an amazing city, I highly recommend it if you are thinking about visiting, so much fun!

Is there anything more relaxing then enjoying great cigars on vacation?

Cheers!

I've been to Barcelona once on an excursion from a Cruise and loved it! My friends and I planned to go there for Wine & cigar debauchery for a week. Just as we were planning, the anti-smoking laws came into full effect. :2thumbs:

Did you have a lot of trouble finding places to smoke? You said you had a few "walk around" cigars. Is that the way you usually roll or did you have to out of necessity?

Our hotel was non smoking, even on the roof deck which was a little disappointing, but there was a cafe right next to the hotel that allowed smoking on their terrace. I did most of my smoking there.

I don't normally have walk around smokes, but my wife and I walked everywhere, some days we walked 5 to 6 hours around the city so a few mornings with perfect weather I lit up some PCs on the walk. Then in the afternoon we retreated to the cafe for the larger smokes.

There is a shortage of places to smoke, I feel lucky to have that cafe so close to the hotel.

It's a great city. Cheers!

That RA GdE is just lovely. Glad you had a nice trip.

When did that cigar circulate?

Nice pictures!!

That Reyes sure looks worse than any that I have ever smoked but I am glad to hear it smoked well :)

I see that one online store has those Grandes de Espana from 2008 in stock but almost $300 for a box of ten seems excessive... hope you paid less

Thanks for the comments guys, we had fabulous weather while we were there. Sunny and warm everyday.

Barcelona is a wonderful place. Congratulations on learning the purse trick. It always works for me, although it can be expensive.

Did you go to the Gaudi cathedral?

We did, what an amazing experience that was. We also enjoyed Park Guell, so creative.

Hi Bob,

The Grandes is a 2008 regional and I remember the Prez having some around the end of last year, I wish I got some!

Thanks, Erm. Story of my life: day late and a dollar short.

I haven't had the pleasure of smoking the RA GdE yet, but I can say the Partagas P1 is an aboslutely phenomenal cigar. Smoked my first earlier this year while in Cabo, and it still remains the best cigar I've smoked YTD.

+1

The P1's are simply stunning! I've had 4 so far and had to hide my unopened jar out of sight so I don't smoke through them all in a week

*I've read in previous cigar-related articles and literature that Spain gets the cream of the crop, best selections of Habanos when Cuba ships them out because Spain shares in and supplies them with lots of farming equipment, fertilizer, pesiticides, tractors, cost for upkeep, etc. Though the ones I've managed to sample from there seemed VERY young, non-aged, etc. I've managed to acquire some habanos from Portugal and MAN, what a difference. Well aged. Wonderful deep aroma and flavor. Those photos were like unto near "porn" for me!

The rain in Spain falls mainly in October, but I still think that's the best month everywhere in the world - spring in the southern hemisphere, autumn in the north. Like Mick Jagger, I'd never been to Spain but I kinda liked the music, and he told me the ladies were insane and they knew how to move it.

So for the second half of October 2008 I rented a studio apartment in the Barrio Gotica for a holiday, by myself, as usual. I loved every moment of Barcelona. The plan had been to make that my base for exploring Catalunya, but I never left the city. There was more than enough there to keep me enthralled every day, wandering lonely as a cloud and with a similar lightness of being. The area I stayed was itself worth the whole trip - a mediaeval labyrinth of ancient Roman history framing stylish modern boutiques and curiosity shops, constantly laced with exquisite classical music from auditioned buskers - variously guitarists, flautists and chamber quartets.

Early one particular morning I strolled the damp flagstones of the Gothic Quarter down to the waterfront and from there to Las Ramblas, the great curving mile of promenade leading from the city centre to the sea. There was a small tobacconist tucked into a corner. I stepped in and said "good morning!" in Spanish to the raven-haired and buxom lady proprietor. From her I purchased a Partagas Serie D. She clipped it for me, and I went down to the waterfront by the Columbus Monument with a paper tumbler of coffee to light my cigar and turn 53.

In bars a loner in Barcelona, happy birthday to me.

Snagged some treats did you!! I've had that RA in my humidor for 9 months. I only have one so I wanna make sure I smoke it at it's peak. I'd like to hear more reviews on those in the future. I got 2 P1's and I hear they are smoking great now. So I think I'll be sparking one up shortly. Looks to me you had one hell of a trip buddy!! fantastic...
