Is Canadian whiskey taxed at all?All 'sin' luxuries are taxed to the **** in an effort to curb addiction. It doesn't work, it just gets the government more money. All alcohol is taxed, smoking indoors is completely banned in some provinces such as Alberta where I live. No cigar lounges even. The only place you can smoke indoors is at casinos on Indian Resevations. Even then you can only smoke cigars in one and that's outside Calgary near Banff. BUT that has allowed some serious brothers such as @rye to setup an amazing annual indoor event. Google Rocky Mountain Smokeout. Herf at top of a mountain anyone? Been a while since I last got a bottle of this - usually mooching some from my other whisky drinking mates. I've never had it before and the guy that gave it to me drinks a lot of scotch and he suggested on ice. I'm definitely going to drink neat and go from there. I was at the Lark Distillery on the weekend. Quite a nice bunch of affable, friendly, enthusiastic and passionate blokes. I got to have a sniff down the barrel the Hall of Fame whisky was finished in, and I can tell you it was a beauty. The sample they generously gave me confirmed - it's a beautifully crafted whisky. Hailing from working at Distilleries in Scotland, and with his most recent stint at Bruichladdich - the extremely personable and passionate Craig, the head distiller (after Bill Lark himself) has as much experience as anyone in the industry. He said the 'hands on' nature of making whisky at Lark was where his heart was. Not mechanized and automated as most Scotch distilleries now were. And sharing drams and listening to tales of the Tassie whisky industry with them at the end of the night (after they finished work) was a highlight! That is Ian, from Lark - who was very generous. Really great crew of folk, who are passionate about their craft. I'll be keeping an eye on them, and supporting them as they move forward. Trying it out now with a PSD4. I normally need to add an ice cube or 2 or some water to my whisky but this is fantastic neat. I haven't been a fan of peaty scotch in the past but I think my tastes are changing. Seems to pair well with the cigar too. Been checking out some of the threads and seeing what seems to be popular. Loving everyone's cigar tastes so I assumed their whisky tastes would be spot on too. Might have a taste tonight.
