Peter11216
We've had similar polls about cigar smoking rates. I'm curious about drinking habits. I like to smoke early in the morning, preferably alone before everyone wakes up. So, I like to have water or coffee with my cigar. Sometimes when I get a chance to have a smoke in the evening, I'll have a drink, but I find that I prefer to either concentrate on a cigar or a whisky, it is rare that I can pair them successfully. I am sure most people drink and smoke at the same time. Does anyone else not like drinking when they smoke? I'm thinking of a "drink" as anything that has the equivalent amount of alcohol as a 12oz beer, or glass of wine, something in that range. Thanks, Edited March 12, 2012 by Petrus
riazp
I only drink when I go out with friends at a bar or cigar lounge. When I smoke at home its usually with a coffee, soft drink or water.
CanuckSARTech
A poll on drinking habits?!!?!?!?! Sorry.... I don't need anymore help. I can get myself into enough trouble on my own.
bambam
I usually have soda with a cigar. Once in a while a glass of port or a big red wine. Just my taste.
ptrthgr8
I'm with Shlomo on this one... I have a very hard time not having booze of some sort when I'm smoking a cigar. The exception to that rule would be when having a smoke with my morning coffee... but that's only on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings (no time to enjoy the smoke with my coffee during the week). The other 99% of the time it's rum or scotch or beer or cognac or something else. I've also found that a couple shots of Padron Silver go nicely with any cigar, though I usually have another boozey drink on hand to enjoy afterwards. Booze and cigars. It's like peanut butter and chocolate. Strawberries and cream. Peas and carrots. Blondes and redheads. Wait. What? Well... you get the point. Some things in life are just so much more enjoyable when paired with something else. That is just the way of things. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
LLC
If i am having a cigar during the day it is normally with an Americano, if it is at night it would be with red wine, scotch or cognac.
khomeinist
Weird poll. Seems a bit too probing for a recreational forum. Drink what you drink. Smoke what you smoke. Leave PR/marketing to the stuffed suits......

Eltoasto
I usually drink more than 15 a week and very happy with my current consumption. The mental health benefits, in my opinion, that come from those drinks far outweigh the physical downside I would love to increase my cigar/alcohol consumption but unfortunately I'm a few decades too late to do it all in Mad Men style. Peter11216
From a BBC article on a study done in Spain: "The Spanish research involving more than 15,500 men and 26,000 women found large quantities of alcohol could be even more beneficial for men. . . . And for those who drank anything from three shots to more than 11 shots each day, the risk worked out an average of 50% less." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8367141.stm Obviously, many of us were happy to read about this study, no matter how dubious it might be. There may be physical benefits as well as mental. I usually drink more than 15 a week and very happy with my current consumption. mazolaman
I usually do not drink with a cigar. But if I do, it would be a good whisky or IPA/ Kreik. Personally, I did not drink alcohol for 3 years recently, but found it difficult to socialise, as in the UK, we are very drink dependent when it comes to socialising. So I do drink now, but am planning to give it up when we go off touring in my campervan, and am looking forward to giving up.
davidsan
I drink socially on the weekends, but also I drink when attending work functions during the week which bumps up my drink count for the week. I would probably classify myself as a binge drinker. I can be timid with my alcohol consumption for a while but when out with mates on the weekend it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to have a 12+ hour drinking session. I always drink when smoking cigars. Usually a nice rum neat or a beer.
Loki
The warmer the weather, and it will be here soon on the east coast , the more drinks had on the deck.
NMJoe
...in the UK, we are very drink dependent when it comes to socialising. I need to move to the UK. I'm tired of people in the US telling me what's good for me and how much of everything I should or should not consume.
Ravenwood
If it's a cigar I haven't tried before, I'll only drink water so I can get a decent read on the profile. Now, if its one of my favs, then a nice "beverage" such as single malt scotch or a bourbon is the way I roll...

AverageJoe83
Odd poll. I havent counted how much I have had to drink since I was a teenager. As far as with a cigar I havent tried pairing yet, as I have yet to define my own likes and dilikes in cigars without influenecing flavors. CanuckSARTech
When I entered the Forces, I had to do a disclosure form about my drug and alcohol intake over the previous 10 years. Drugs - nada (I've been well past my high school days). Alcohol however..... Gawd, it's amazing how bad it can look when you actually have to put it down on paper, some sort of an estimate of what's been consumed during the previous week/month/year. I mean, WOW. Good thing my wife makes decent money. Although, in my defence, I'm a big dude. It takes a LOT more to get me going.
