Books on (Havana) Cigars

Received an excellent book from my friend & merchant Mr Portmann that has just come out and I'm impressed by it's quality and wealth of "basic" and detailed information.

It is by Habanos SA, in English, with 186 pages of high quality pictures and decent text.

I especially liked the detailed information on planting, harvesting & fermentation plus all the information and real size pictures on vitolas.

Spent the afternoon in the garden and finished it - never boring.

(Rare) Compliments to HSA !

As Art (and because he told me about it) I bought my copy last week. Excellent introduction (perhaps the best) with beautiful pictures and at such a cheap price! A must buy.

Best,

Michel

Guys, where can I get the HSA book? I don't think I can find it in my country so buying online looks like the only option for me.

If you mean the new one, the LCDH's carry them.

A friend will be grabbing the new Habanos book for me from an LCDH near you! (would love one here in Hawaii but not yet :)

Also getting the Cigar Book by Gerard Pere and sons, Getting the older 2 part series since they are so reasonable on ebay.

I bump up this thread for those interested in books on (mainly) CC cigars. I haven't see anything new published on the subject recently but if you have, please let me know.

Have a good (re-)read!

Michel

My pleasure, Trent. And yes, post something about the Cohiba book once you have read it.

All the best,

Michel

Hey Michel,

I just ordered it but couldn't find out much about it. I'll post some more info one I receive it and have a chance to go through it. Thanks for all the tips on the Partagas book!

A difficult question. Some are very informative but without beautiful pictures, others are purely coffee table books. Most are outdated now. If I had to choose one which is both beautiful and informative but also relatively cheap as a second-hand, I'll go with the Del Todesco. But I'm sure other people have their favourite!

Best,

Michel

PS: I still have lots of love for the Gerard Pere & Fils production.

I have a few of these and to my mind del Todesco's "The Havana Cigar" is one of the most insightful tomes on seed to smoke that I've read. While maybe not to the quality of some other publications, the photography is pretty spectacular in what's captured.

All these great suggestions will definitely keep me busy during the winter since I can't smoke as often. I've been looking for some good cigar reading and this thread is the Jackpot. Thanks all!
