It's actually quite depressing because your on the forum everyday browsing reading, learning, commenting and just enjoying the freedom that is FOH. And every week or two this magical post appeared usually saying "live from the humidor Thursday 11 am local Brisbane time". Your eyes open wide blood starts going a bit faster and your visa stretches too warm up for the adrenaline packed bidding. And now it may very well be gone. Rob smithy and the team put in a ridiculous amount of effort day to day and even go the extra mile and take the time to dig through stock click pics and post them for us to devour. Constantly refreshing the page waiting to see if box b is the shade of wrapper you prefer etc. so now due to malakias ( Greek word which shan't be translated here) in the gov we lose the luxury. I'm Canadian and feel the same hated our Aussie friends do. Anyways folks this post is mainly for me and anyone else to show appreciation and thanks to the czar team for everything they do and that Lfth was an Absolute masterpiece and will be missed. Even with that word 'circumvent' since it's the perfect word for this issue. Piece of a reply email sent to Rob when he mentioned "arm wrestling" the Govt as he put it. "A man wrestling the Man! Classic!! A resourceful man like yourself will find a way to keep our beloved LFTH section alive. Maybe... - External, offshore, password protected images? Have you heard of TOR? - poetic descriptions, which you guys are great at anyway. - videos on youtube (hey, they aren't pictures but film! Voila! Government circumvented." Also, 'Matt Green' generic labels are going to blow. Wonder if my word of the day, circumvent, can be applied here too when plain packaging December rolls around. Post 50 images in advance, not all of which would be available on an LFTH. Then the actual LFTH would consist of descriptions or clues. chr0nic Posted September 6, 2012 Share Posted September 6, 2012 I guess without in-depth knowledge of legislation it is difficult to say what the fate of LFTH is... however, I don't think it comes purely down to legalities. The whole premise of LFTH is quality. Anyone can buy a box of Cohiba Siglo VI. However, ElPres- through years of being surrounded by wonderful cigars- has learned how to pick an epic box of Cubans stunners, and leave the crap for the rest. So much so that he can even rate the good boxes between good (pe), great (hq) and effin fantastic (psp), price them accordingly and have no one complain about it. Because he has it down to a fine art. Now that new Australian 'plain packaging' legislation has come in, firstly I would imagine that boxes earmarked for Australia wouldn't be too special to start with. But that is just a cynical guess, perhaps Habanos will distribute excellent stock everywhere, whether it is to be plain packed afterwards or not, this isn't a deal breaker. The main issue I would see is that all the boxes ElPres gets to choose from now would be plain. Not very appealing considering most of the punters come from countries where this kind of packaging isn't necessary. Some won't care, but many will. These packs are going to look like sh*t. Anyone can 'auction' off boxes of cigars using video, alternate forums, tricky systems etc etc... but hand-picking great boxes in OEM Cuban packaging is going to get much harder. My guess would be that LFTH would continue- but would be a rare event, perhaps once every couple of months, when ElPres managed to visit a warehouse that hasn't been ravaged by the plain-packaging laws. But hey, just a guess. Could be looking at this all wrong. As far as I am concerned LONG LIVE LFTH (and viva la C*NTA's while I'm at it! ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
tdlfoto Posted September 6, 2012 Share Posted September 6, 2012 I was thinking the same thing.... even on album on flickr or something with "recent excellent stock" not tied directly to a LFTH that might occur a few days later. the images and the LFTH are two separate entities. or, just do a LFTH sans images. He's made tables of stock, separated by how many PE / HQ / PSP boxes he has avalabile. That works for me. The value is in the steak, not the sizzle. I said it before and I'll say it again LOL bring back live IN the humidor (warehouse), maybe add a little sizzle again. And I have more faith in them picking a box then anyone hence why I buy hq boxes just by asking for them. No pics included lol. Even if our Govt does know, they are inconsistent in their advice (as per what El Prez has been told and what is on paper concerning Plain Packaging). That is only the first problem. Second, is the what is going to be available from Habanos SA and PCC. There is a limit on what is going to available to Australia due to this piece of **** legistration. Plus, the extra work involved. This means that while we will get stock, it will be a fairly limited supply due to extra overhead involved. El Prez might be able to find good boxes for LFTH but it will be very difficult with what is going to be available from the stock available in Aust. Only way this might work is possibility of LFTH once every 3 mths. That is if Rob goes over to HK, goes to PCC HK warehouse and hand picks boxes from there. But in fairness, I think he will have to increase the prices (air fares, accommodation, to pick boxes in another country is not easy). Not sure how this would even work.....
