Would regularly see them diving underwater pinnacles around Coromandel and further down the coast at White Island (live Volcano). Ken Gargett Posted March 17, 2014 Author Share Posted March 17, 2014 i probably have to be corrected on this but my understanding is that yellowtail amberjack is a name that covers several "kingfish". a 'californian kingfish', a 'yellowtail kingfish' and a few others. i think that the ones around kiwiland are some of the largest. and that certainly the largest i've seen.
