earthson
If you're still waiting for an American television news station to keep to up on the facts as they are in the world, I surely hope you don't consider yourself "well-informed!" That's like saying you know a lot about cigars because you read the Thompson Cigar catalog! ("Says here Phillies are making a comeback...." = "Rush says people on welfare just don't want to work...") Popular Post PigFish
Okay, I'll bite! A lot of you guys know me already! I am extremely biased, opinionated… and don't mind sharing. I hate political correctness, but don't like to let the hatred for the practice get in the way of my being concerned for peoples' feelings… If the earth were flat, I would have fallen off the right side! I range between extreme right and radical libertarian. I think of many things simply and prefer a simple meaning to a complex one (when it comes to life and politics). This topic, like it or not is a political one!!! What passes for facts when we are talking opinions and politics, seem to be whatever you believe in. Facts then are beliefs to most of us. If you want to see some facts on media, you might want to check out Brent Bozell at the Media Research Center. Yeah, Brent is a far right biased guy… But, you might notice some of the statistics that he brings to light about US media. Forget the reasons for a second and just look at what the media covers and how much time they devote to covering what they cover. A thinking man or woman can conclude for himself/herself what they are up to! Okay, to some, what happened to our embassy in Benghazi is unimportant. As some in the media claim it is old news. It is more important to see who is pregnant in the Royal family. It appears to me, that we all grade the news into categories and it all depends on what you think news is. For me, there is tabloid news, hard news, market news and political news… I like political news and market news. How about the IRS (an alleged agent of an unbiased government) targeting certain groups that have applied for tax exempt status… is that news? Or, in recent news, where a certain group of senators want to dramatically change our Constitution by amending the 1st Amendment and essentially killing political speech…! What say you, is that news? Since this is an international forum, perhaps not… I mean I can only watch guys looking for a downed airplane for a few minutes!!! In ten minutes I concluded that the plane was hijacked or it broke up! News to me is not a tragedy hunt. News for me, both nationally and globally are things that can have a profound effect on my life. When the leaders of a certain country have numerously called my country, the large Satan, that is news. When they swear that it is their goal to bring about my country's destruction openly on their national news; and those guys are getting close to making nukes… well that is news that is important to me. How the leadership in my country are handling this ostensible threat is important to me… Oh, and if they start by wanting to touch off a nuclear war with Israel… that too is important to me. So what the news covers and how they cover it is important to me. I want to know if an administration is using the tax code to stifle the rights of my countrymen and I don't care which administration is doing it or which group it is done too! I want to know if the leader 'of the free world' is lying when the FBI arrests a guy for making a video, which is a convenient cover story for why an embassy was attacked, when the commander in chief and his staff can't tell us where they were and what they were doing about it and why they refused to provide the support they needed. When these same officials are again wanting to be put into high places, well, I want to know about it! When the Commander in Chief will fly himself, his family and his dog on different flights to go on vacation, I would like to know why he did not take the same care to scramble some air support for an American embassy under siege! Yeah, I want to know what he was thinking… That is what I am paying him for… Look people, I don't care if they all go on vacation on the taxpayer dime! The less they all do in Washington the better!!! Send them all golfing, I say!!! But when the first pet gets air support and the diplomatic corps does not, well, I want to know why? When the speaker of the House of Representatives says, "We have to pass the bill, so we can see what's in it…" Yeah, I think that is news!!! Frankly I could care less about when a new iPhone is released or if it is the 20th aniv. of OJ Simpsons trial… I don't really care if the President is getting a hummer from a staff member in the oval office or if a bunch of them are building houses for the poor in Detroit! Maybe if we took a good look at what policies made Detroit poor, we would get somewhere! What I want to hear about is the rampant corruption and incompetence in my government. I want to know who is working on what and why. I want to know who is responsible and I don't care what party they belong to…. …I want to see them all wearing orange jumpsuits!!! You only get that news if the news organizations report it and follow up on why they are not getting the answers. I think all administrations should be hounded to death by the media. That is what a free media should do.
rsanz
Haven't had broadcast TV for quite some time now but when we did I sometimes watched Fox, in the spirit of Sun Tzu. It was like a train wreck...
