A Ural on a HOG ride? It's for charity, so why not? :)

Recommended Posts

On Saturday the local Grand Forks, North Dakota, HOG chapter held its annual benefit ride to help the local Circle of Friends Humane Society. The event raised nearly $4000 for the shelter and there were 91 bikes involved, mostly Harleys, of course, but a few Goldwings… and one Ural. The Ural isn’t exactly the speediest of machines and with the North Dakota wind in our face the whole way we were lucky to hit 60mph. So, we brought up the end, though one of the event organizers and a couple of friends were more than happy to ride with us. So, we sorta had a Harley escort. smile.png

I mounted the ol’ HERO2 to the sidecar and we got a some neat video of the first leg of the ride (about 40 miles). We weren’t able to continue on for the rest of the ride (round trip was ~180 miles), but even just the first stint was good times.

Here’s the link to the video. Full HD, so crank it up and enjoy the sights and the tunage.

The local HOG folks are a good bunch of people. We’re already planning to go on next year’s benefit ride. smile.png

It was a lot of fun for sure. It could have been less windy and it would have been better, but it was super sunny and about 78 degrees, so it was a nearly perfect day for a ride like that. And there's definitely something cathartic about hearing almost 100 Harleys starting up all at the same time. :)

Good stuff! My Harley sits too much. We were in Minot for the State Fair, stopped at their one smoke shop and learned there's a pretty good sized group doing their 7th annual herf, have you been up there for it, heard about it??

Why not Minot?

Freezin's the reason!

:)

Only been to Minot a couple of times and that was mainly driving through to other places. Didn't even know they had a cigar shop. Whereabouts is it? Not sure when I'll be out that way next, but if I am I'll certainly check it out.

Now about that bike of yours... you need to let 'er run more. A motorcycle that just sits there is as sad as an empty humidor, eh? :)

It's not a fancy shop, on highway 83, north side . But they claim 125 attended last year's herf!

As for the bike, need to start hauling it to warmer weather in winter when I have more time. Moving my youngest daughter to UND this fall which may help the time issue :) Don't recall any smoke shops in Grand Forks?

There used to be one cigar shop in Grand Forks. The Cigar Lounge opened somewhere around 2002 maybe? But it closed a few years ago. It was on South Washington and about 24th in a little strip mall. Definitely not the fanciest place I'd ever patronized, but they had a really great cigar selection when they first opened. And then it got smaller and more mundane as the years went by. Now if you want a stick or two you need to go to Happy Harry's. There are two in GF - one on 32nd (the main store) and one on Gateway. The store on 32nd has a better humidor, but the other also stocks a decent selection.

But, yeah... I get most of my sticks delivered to me. smile.png

I've bought a few from Harry's:) still a nice aroma in their humidor even if all nc's! On the road to Minneapolis for my older daughter today, carrying a few nice CC's, going to check out Stogies on Grand!
