Mate, you can never go wrong with my two favourites: Bookers Bourbon and or Makers Mark

woodford reserve and knob creek, both run about 30-35$ a bottle

Angel's Envy does it for a few of my friends that are rum lovers.

Starting to think I might be a lost cause

Tried Makers and Buffalo Creek (the only two I could easily get my hands on) and wasn't impressed

They weren't bad, just not my cup of tea (or bourbon, in this case)

I'll keep hunting

I just tonight had A Bookers 2015-1 Big Man Small Batch. It was reminiscent of over proof Zacapa. A lot of floral burnt honey mid palate, with an extreme vanilla nose and a sweet burnt sugar finish. This is way different then most batches of Bookers. If your not an over proof drinker you will need to water it down, however I can not speak to it's taste after much water.

Have you tried Eagle Rare 10?

Very smooth, some residual sweetness (unless mistaken), interesting flavour and aroma with little bitterness. Also relatively inexpensive...

Another vote for Woodford Reserve here, sooooooo smooth

+1 I lean towards scotches but when I go Bourbon its usually Woodford Reserve

Buffalo Trace?

If you want something reminiscent of a dark rum in body, few bourbons are that heavy. Elijah Craig 12 yr., Four Roses single barrel and Booker's might be a few to try if they are available to you.

My favorite bourbon these days is Michter's. It is sweet which pairs well with cigars and is good for a rum drinker. There rye has also been a favorite at my fishing camp over the last few years where we samplease a lot of bourbons. Have read every post but if you are looking for something of good value.....I have had friends prefer Jim beam over Makers and Woodford in blind tastell tests. It is also my go to low cost Bourbon, for cocktails.
