New host of "Top Gear"

Anyone who remembers the Aussie version of Top Gear will know just how important the host dynamic is in order to get that show to function.

Over the last few years Top Gear has turned itself from dime a dozen Motoring Review show into more of an Automotive variety hour.

The dynamic the 3 hots had was the main reason for this. It allowed the producers to ditch the standard "here is a car, this is what I think of it" and go a little more crazy. You can kiss that goodbye now

I agree 100% - For me the Aussie version paled in comparison and I only watched 1 episode and decided, I will stick with the original and best. I will watch the new iteration to see but for now, I'm content watching all seasons on Netflix :)

I think the aussie version could have been great with "decent" people. Shane Jacobson, Eric Bana and Steven Curry would have made it absolutely amazing i would have thought. Well, amazing for the Australian humour anyway ok.gifspotlight.gif

I remember when they were recruiting for hosts I threw my hat in the ring

Obviously, the producers had no idea what they were doing as I never even got a phone call

Top Gear Trio Sign With Amazon (Not Netflix) For Brand New Show

1363274055054815119.jpg

Amazon has announced that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will be reuniting to create “an all-new car show” that will be exclusively on Amazon Prime.
The new show will be produced by the old-time Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman and is scheduled to go into production “shortly.” It will apparently appear on screens in 2016. For what it’s worth, Jeremy Clarkson has said that the move makes him “feel like I’ve climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship.”
It’s interesting to be an Australian observer to this news, especially given that Amazon’s Instant Video product doesn’t see the light of day down under. We’ll keep our ear to the ground to see if a local partner is announced for the new-look Top Gear.
If not, time to fire up those VPNs again, readers.

Eddie Jordan announced as latest Top Gear presenter

Former Formula 1 team owner turned BBC F1 pundit, Eddie Jordan, won't be heading to Channel 4's coverage of the sport, but will instead join Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc as a presenter of the new-look Top Gear.

The BBC chose to axe its Formula 1 coverage this year as part of an effort to save costs. Instead, UK free-to-air broadcaster Channel 4 has taken up the remainder of the BBC's contract.

Channel 4 has yet to announce its full presenting team, only confirming that David Coulthard will move across, with further announcements expected in March ahead of the beginning of the season.

Jordan and Suzi Perry will not be joining Coulthard. The latter tweeted that she won't be involved in C4's coverage and nor will she be involved in Top Gear. Jordan however has been confirmed as one-of-seven hosts of the new Top Gear following Jeremy Clarkson's 'fracas' which saw him and co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May leave.

"I’m giddy with excitement to be joining Chris and the team," said Jordan. "I have such enormous respect for all my fellow presenters and I politely ask that they go easy on these old bones.

"Cars are in my DNA and although I’ve been fortunate enough to accomplish most things I ever aspired to in motorsport, presenting Top Gear is quite simply the icing on the cake."

Joining Jordan, Evans and LeBlanc will be German racing driver Sabine Schmitz, renowned motoring journalist and YouTube petrolhead Chris Harris, and car reviewer and TV presenter Rory Reid.

how many more do they want,is it BBC plan to have as many presenters as possible and keep the ones that work and cut the rest?

one thing fore sure is there's not going to be any racial jokes with that lot...well maybe Mexican!

Have no idea but it simply won't work because it won't be the same.

I think half the magic of the original Top Gear were the original three presenters. Their cander, humour, rivalry between each other, hilarity and made you feel like you were hanging out with a bunch of friends.

The new group is exactly that, a huge group of people who will present this show like a morning breakfast news show. It simply will not work. I know it's too early to judge but I'm guessing it won't get a second season.

I am assuming the sheer number of presenters is to allow each one to specialise in a specific area and that the new series will be more about 'cars' instead of the banter that was the highlight under Clarkson. Perhaps the rumours of Chris Evans having difficulty filming and driving have some substance and he will now just present the program instead of participate in each section. While I hope the new format is a success and as enjoyable to watch as it used to be, I'm not feeling too confident it will.

Chris Evans makes good shows, he's been a success in everything he's done in entertainment. The likelyhood is it will be great TV.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Amazon Prime & the ex presenters. I hope it works too, I'm less optimistic about that though.
