When A CC behaves like a bad spliff

Recommended Posts

Guest scsi

So I fire up an RA Canadian Regional that I had been looking forward to...

I had couple others and they were just great

When I lit this one, I immediately had problems with a bad run

To the point where, like the spliff you have to wet it to stop from running

It tasted wonderful, but had this annoying run for 2/3s of it

In the final third, it finally burned evenly

I'm wondering if this could happen with a cigar that is too moist

My desktop humidor said 69% but it felt a bit spongey

And it had a couple of what I would call, slight rupture seams

Almost like the tobacco was bursting to come out?

Anyway, in spite of the run that I had to tend to for the duration

It was a great smoke

Any thoughts?

Being a desktop, are you using a humidifier that is attached to the lid? If so, it could be excess moisture being directly placed against your top shelf cigars and could be causing this by wetting a bit beyond combustibility, while the other portion wants to burn fine.

Try an indirect humidity source or use some cedar from a box divider to create a barrier

Less is more. Try a lower RH

Lower the rh for sure.... If still have burn issues, try dry boxing before burning.

I'm not surprised they feel spongy. IMHO 69% rh is way too high to store CC's. Try 63%-65%, and depending on how many cigars in that humidor, it may take several weeks after lowering the rh for those cigars to lose that extra moisture.

What is the ambient temp and rh? Piggy can weigh in here, but try searching the subject on this forum and you'll find plenty of info on the relationship between the micro and macro environments and their effects on the cigars and the humidor.

This happened to me once when I left a cigar in my car on a hot day. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) heat can cause this sometimes also.
