The Old Fashioned Cocktail (and its many variations)

My recipe is:

Dollop of sugar syrup (enough to almost cover the bottom of the glass), four or five dashes of Fee Brothers bitters, two shots of booze (ideally Bullit Rye, but that's been a bit hard to find lately, so Jim Beam Rye, Bullit Bourbon or Makers Mark work equally well, as, in a pinch, does any whiskey, rum or brandy). Throw in a big ice cube (I have some trays that make cubes that are about an inch and a half a side and more or less fill my tumblers) and spin it around a few times with a bar spoon. Add a maraschino cherry (I make my own - brandy, cinnamon and a heap of sugar) and you're done. Waft a little orange zest over the top and wipe the peel around the rim if you're trying to impress a girl or something.

Great idea, Duxnutz and Alex, to make your own Maraschino cherries. Much better than using the dead industrial ones.

Does one have to use fresh or blanched/cooked (or perhaps canned) cherries for that?

This is what you want to do for an Old Fashioned...

Great find clap.gif
