Fellow reprobates,

Just a little heads up to say "Glencairn! Eat your heart out!"

I backed these guys on Kickstarter back in 2015 and the glasses finally arrived the other day!

Norlan!

Look them up!

Great weight to them. Solid but not overly heavy.

Once filled you can really witness the double wall construction and the Whisky reflects up through the cavity giving he glass a golden rim effect.

Pretty stoked with them. Highly recommend.

Here's the latest production vid:-

Found them here:-

Saw this and was sorely tempted... but I drink a helluva lot more wine than whisky, so I bought a case of wine instead.

Must be nasty wine! I got 8 glasses for $182USD. 2 sets of 2 for gifts and 4 for me!

Yes, they do look similar to the Riedel Vinum Cognac glass, which sits nicely in the hand and allows you to sift through the nose and sip your drink better than the standard brandy balloon, in my opinion.

Ken, I'd be interested to know two things from your contact at Riedel...

1) Is that the same glass for the Zacapa XO and Centenario 23 (it looks so)?

2) Is the Zacapa glass wider and thicker than the cognac glass?

see what i can find out.

as far as i am aware, definitely the same. be unlikely they would have two different glasses for a single producer.

So, are these worth getting?  Did you really notice a difference?

The concept and marketing seem enticing.

Yes. They are worth it. And you can tell the difference. I remained dubious, but have done several side by side tests with my glencairn vs norlan. You notice the difference significantly more with cask strength whiskies, but overall there is less sharpness when sniffing any whisky and as a result you can definitely pick out more flavours that would usually hide behind the alcohol or be overpowered by it. I really dig them.

Also, there are 2 aesthetic elements that came out of it that weren't mentioned. When filled the light that pours through the whisky reflect up in between the two glass layers and give the glass a golden edge. Which is really cool! And when looking directly into the glass they each have an ever so slightly different pattern.

What's the point of the double wall construction?  To slow your ice melting?

Don't have mine yet but I believe that they advise against using ice.
