garbandz
Moore was at his best in " The Saint ". most of you are too young to remember the series, and probably less than 2 of you have ever read any of the Charteris books. excellent story lines and fascinating plots. Simon Templar drove a Volvo 1800 in the TV series.

Simon Templar drove a Volvo 1800 in the TV series. i read some charteris as a kid. loved the saint. and the persuaders. very very surprised by this support for moore as a good (i can not even say it, best) bond. there were earlier posts on the 007 in the fleming books that are relevant. moore was the complete antithesis of fleming's bond. those behind the moore 007 films turned those bond's into cartoons and demeaned 007. sure, writers and directors must take some blame but much lands with moore. brosnan was not much better. invisible cars and john cleese as Q or R or whatever? spare me. connery and/or craig are so much closer to fleming's 007 (dalton not too far removed). the reboot came because films like the bourne series were thrashing 007 at the box office. whether you take connery or craig as the best bond, casino royale is for me the best of the films, skyfall next. but i will always love the old connery films. and have probably seen them all 15-20 times. can just about recite the dialogue as it goes along. But Bond has to reboot every time they get a new actor. A new face requires a new style, a new tone, a new direction. The same happened with Batman. They are ongoing franchises, and the film makers cannot simply swap out one face for another and keep on in the same style. As for favourite Bonds, I am vaguely surprised no-one has yet seen fit to mention David Niven in the original Casino Royale. Few people ever managed to portray an English gentleman as he could... And here I thought that was the Casino Royale Ken kept going on about.

I do agree with Connery, Craig and Dalton mirroring Fleming's Bond in his novels closer than the other three. And I feel Casino Royale and Skyfall amongst the very best Bond films, together with the very first three...Dr No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger. Why not just start a new series of Action/Spy movies??? What is the point in calling it a Bond movie if you are going to take away all the things that make it a Bond movie in the first place? It drives me beserk!! Agreed , any new Bond movie storylines should stay in the cold war era where 007 belongs .
