Early NFL Buzz + Predictions = ...???

Recommended Posts

= egg on your face, probably, right?... Maybe... Maybe not. Ah, the fun of an impending season!

I know it's early days for big calls and, straight up, I'll tell you that I'm not an experienced NFL fan by any stretch, but I'm going to delve right into this year. However, as most know, when following a sport reasonably seriously, you get immersed in the off-season roster moves and the pre-season training and trial games. And this soon leads to Nostradamus-like predictions being wildly touted around with an unwavering, though wholly unfounded, show of expertise and certainty... Well, at least that's what happens with me...  : )

Anyhow, due to my New England association (massive Red Sox fan) I'm plonking my arse on the back of the Patriots, for better or worse. Feel free to tell me all about their chances or lack of them, and/or let me know of your expert analysis/solid predictions/gut-feelings/wild guesses for your team this year. : )

Whatever the case, good luck for the season!

the iggles will not go back to back.

cousins will discover that life is not so easy without the skins O line. still, $80 mill will cover the hospital costs and leave some change. the vikings will do worse this year than they managed last season.

the glorious skins will surprise. their run defence will not be last in the league this year. in fact, if we avoid major injuries, we are top 12. if they can avoid the other horror stat from last season - last in players injured, games missed, starters out - then they might snag a wild card spot. or better. if we don't, new coach.

and the giants, as good as barkley might be, might be thinking (by the end of the season) that they really should have used the opportunity to grab a QB for the future. eliwill not get the job done.

the rams will give the superbowl a real shake and we will realise that we should have let gruden go, not mcvay.

if we do get the same bucketload of injuries, gruden is gone. in fact, both grudens might be thinking that coaching is not so easy by season's end.

the other side looking for a new coach for next year - the cowgirls.

As a Lions fan, I enter every season “drinking the kool aid” only to rio my hair out every Sunday afternoon due to the constant disappointment and underperformance.

I guess life could be worse though... could be a Browns fan

On that note... 11-5 and NFC North divisional champs!

Almost forgot... Kerryon Johnson is the clear #1 RB for you guys by the end of the year.  The guy is an absolute beast who was recovering from injuries last year.

Hopefully. We’ve said the same about many backs in the past... our TE position is a joke.

But I do believe our front office is trying to commit to protecting and providing Stafford with the offense he needs to take us to the promised land.

Can’t wait to see Patricia as head coach too.

This time of year? It's really all about the Browns, for everyone.  Will they go to the Super Bowl?  Will they be much improved?  Could they win 3 games?  Maybe fire everyone.  Maybe move to Haiti.

They put us on Hard Knocks and I can wait to see it up close.  I think theyre actually a super interesting story this year, all kidding aside.  An 0-16 team that's actually extremely talented at a lot of positions, for once.

Now you sound like a quintessential Lions fan!

I agree I am looking forward to Hard Knocks - I’m a Umich alum so I’m excited to see Jabrill on camera

10 replies in and no mention of the Falcons.

The offense really rebounds after a down year last year.  Julio will get the contract he has earned.  The addition of Ridley will really stretch the field and Julio will have a field day across the middle.  The young Atlanta defense has finally arrived and will rank in the top 5 this year.

Falcons/Texans in the Superbowl

Being a huge UGA fan, I am excited to see how Michel does in New England and Chubb in Cleveland.  Both those guys are exceptional players and people.  Chicago also got a great one in Roquan Smith.

Cowboys are back to basics ... run offense, powerful league-leading O-line, and a defense that is Top 5 for pass rush and run yards allowed.  Regular season ends with a 12-4 record, NFC East champions, possibly a first round bye in the playoffs, and will at least make it to the NFC Championship game.

Whole enchilada?  It could happen, we’ll see. This will be Cowboys football the way it’s meant to be.

Eagles don't have the super bowl hangover people are expecting.  Run/pass balance is still good enough to keep teams guessing on all downs.  Secondary is the biggest concern still, theyll give up points for sure.

Other teams in the NFC East are getting too much credit in the off-season.  Alex Smith is not the answer for the skins, teams will stack the box against Zeke and the Cowboys who have 0 receivers who scare anyone.  And the Giants are the Giants, just with an outstanding rookie rb.

Eagles go 10-6 or 11-5 and win the division.  Probably lose 1st or second round in the playoffs.  Competition in the conference will be tough.

I actually think Jabrill is going to be a Pro Bowler.  Last year he was our only safety so they had him play 30 yards off the line of scrimmage.  He showed flashes of his endless potential.

Rabbits run, birds fly, and the Patriots win the AFC East.

i think this is pretty accurate.

it is okay that the cowgirls have no receivers as their QB has been exposed as someone who would struggle to throw to them anyway.

smith perhaps not the answer, age a bit of a concern but when you look at brady??? but he is an upgrade. assuming we are only average with injuries and with an improved defence and the best young running back we have had in a squillion years, we are a good shot to challenge for a playoff spot. if the iggles stumble, possibly snag top spot in the division but that would exceed expectations.

as for the vikings, cook will surely help. i'm not sure cousins will help anywhere near as much as fans think or as $80 mill demands.

Hahaha. Same as the last 5-6 years, right? Who's Dak gunna throw to? We'll see how well Zeke does with 9 in the box on every down. Last time I checked, 4 #3's don't add up to a 1. I do agree with the decision to move on from Dez though. He never gelled with Dak and the rest of the league clearly agrees. The guy is more trouble than hes worth. I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays another down, his view of himself and reality are even farther apart than T.O.s

I do like the majority of the moves my Giants made. I would much rather ride with Eli, than any of the QBs selected early, although I would love to see Baker Mayfield or Lamar Jackson prove me wrong. Obviously/clearly a huge improvement over last year, our head coach was a bottom tier O-Coordinator at best, again not surprised to see him out of work this season. How someone takes a 9 to 11 win team and stumbles into 3 wins is beyond me. I'm putting the over/under at 9. I would be upset with 8-8 or worse and happy with 10 or more wins.

so giant fans are even more optimistic and delusional than skins fans? i didn't think that possible.

NFC east is iggles 10-12, though i suspect a bit under 12. skins 8-9. then giants and cowgirls fighting to avoid wooden spoon. i suspect both going 5-8. giants with odell, shepherd and barkley could surprise but eli is on the way down. is the O line good enough to protect him to the extent he'll need? will the defence get off the field enough to give those stars the chances they need? i think you will come in ahead of the cowgirls. but not by much. i think if either of those sides go 8-8 then they have overachieved a little.

of course, all these thoughts from us all can change in an instant with injuries.

The goal is to not make Dak throw unless he’s got a good read on a mis-match or wide open Hurns or Williams, or Beasley running a slant.  Cowboys have been worse than they should be for a long time (and the world’s most valuable sports franchise) but the pieces are all there.

Giants will no doubt do better without Porn ‘Stache as HC and with Eli under center.  We’ll have at least two good matchups to see which team is most-improved!
