Popular Post Puros Y Vino
Review: Montecristo 1935 Dumas Release: Planned for 2017 - Released mid-2018 Vitola: Prominente Corto - Corona Extra (49 * 130) Production: Regular, but premium line. Montecristo’s “Behike”? Box Code: LAT FEB 18 Paired with : ice water Date: Thursday Aug 16, 2018 Start Time: 3:50PM EST Reviewers Notes: My style of cigar reviewing is “open”. I try to jot down what I’m experiencing with every draw. When you see a “/” consider that a break in between puffs. What I leave out in fancy prose is made up with observation. Consider each segment a play by play. This style works for me. I hope you enjoy it. Pre-light notes Visual: Light, milk chocolate wrapper, smooth, slightly dimpled. Good triple cap Somewhat spongy with a couple of firm spots Aroma at cold:Wrapper: graham cracker, cedar, nutmeg / Foot:pure cocoa, leather. Applied medium punch, nice cut. Draw seems very smooth. Lightly toast the foot. Let’s do this! 1st Third First band comes off / light the cigar / good initial puff, cocoa, / earthy, salty twang / very smooth flavours / burn askew at the start / milk chocolate / attempt to correct burn / salty caramel / cocoa, medium bodie cigar so far / dark and light ash / lots of nice white smoke / burn still a bit off / I correct the burn again / tons of smoke / very creamy in texture, smokes like a “luxury” cigar should IMO / some nice cedar bite on the finish / dry mouth feel to the cigar / nice smooth cocoa draw / sip of water / cool breeze blows / earthy twang / cocoa again, not bad / burn askew, correcting / nice, rich draw of leather / creamy coffee / set cigar down, ash breaks. Par for the course for me / sharp cedary puffs / sip of water / a chalky, nutmeg flavour, interesting / bold coffee flavours / milk chocolate with a salty finish / wrapper splinters off at the burn line; / nice draw of cocoa with an anise finish / swig of water / end 1st Third 2nd Third Salty chocolate / tap off ash / cocoa puffs X 2 / salty chocolate again / leathery, earthy tones / sip of water / creamy coffee / the smoke output has diminished, this was sending up smoke signals in the 1st third and now its just smouldering / cedar notes / chocolate with an anise finish / burn improved but not pretty / nice draw with a few flavour notes, creamy coffee, chocolate and a hint of baked bean on the finish / very enjoyable cigar so far / sip of water / this is my 4th cigar in under 24 hours and I’m tasting every bit of it / double puff , lots of smoke and an intense baked bean hit / chocolate milk / blustery gray and black ash / tangy tobacco draw / burn line nearing the second band / sip of water / sunny and humid out / double puff, more baked beans. I get this flavour a lot in BHK’s, especially the 54 / tap ash, second band easily snaps off / cocoa / baked beans with a cedar finish / end of 2nd Third 3rd Third Sip of water / toasty tobacco / smoke died down, relight / some sweet tobacco / sharp cedar taste / salty with a bean finish / now cedar with a bean finish / sip of water / flavours becoming sharper, cigar overheating perhaps? Taste more sharp cedar notes and toasty tobacco / while the cigar is medium bodied, I’m starting to feel a bit of a buzz now / cedar hit / burn is better, not perfect / cocoa and creamy coffee / nice smoke output again / touch up the burn / anise / sip of water / feeling the buzz / toasty tobacco / tap off ash, remove the Monte band / coffee with a sweet finish / subdued tobacco flavour / a touchup followed by three puffs brings forth a nice hit of cedar and coffee / beans followed by Anise / tangy tobacco / lots of smoke / sip of water / I notice the flavour that lingers on my palate is milk chocolate / toasty tobacco / lots of smoke again / coffee hit / hints of anise / feeling the buzz, youth of the cigar possibly? Or it’s my 4th cigar in under 24hours? / another touch up / beans return / a couple of tasteless puffs, lots of smoke though / anise / nub is hot to the touch / cedar / sip of water / final puff is minty, how odd / FIN Done @ 5:05PM EST Conclusions I’ve been interested in this line ever since it was announced. The larger of the three releases don’t appeal to me as much given they’re following the current Habanos “jawbreaker” trend. The Maltes @ 53 * 153 and the Leyenda @ 55 * 165. The Dumas though, seems like a decent sized cigar. The 1935 Release seems to echo the Cohiba / BHK dynamic. The pricing doesn’t match thankfully, but the spirit of the design carries over. Nice outer box, fabric sleeve and glossy dress box. As for this cigar. I really enjoyed it. I’d probably enjoy it more if I didn’t have to think so much about it; which is a necessity for reviewing. I would definitely consider these box worthy and maybe even go a few boxes deep on them. The cigar hit so many Monte tasting notes on the head throughout the experience. I would give the other two in the line a shot for the sake of completeness. I’m willing to be surprised. But for now, the Dumas is a winner in my books. It has a robust flavour range that I enjoy in a fine cigar and it’s a very smooth, refined smoke overall. Score: 94 5

Connoisseur Kim
Great to hear that! What about Leyenda? Do you find it great as well? Cuz it also have a great reputation on forum despite of its thick ring gauge.Sent from my SHV-E300S using Tapatalk
