If you could design a new cigar sampler what would it be?

Recommended Posts

I was looking at different CC samplers.  I was thinking there could be more variety in them.   If you could come up with your own idea for a sampler what would it be.  Pick a theme then list some cigars that would work well for that sampler.

Mine would be medium to long length cigars with smaller ring gauges.   More specifically 5.5" and longer and a 40 ring gauge and under.   Here is a list of examples.  I am open to more suggestions.

1. Cohiba Coronas Especiales
2. Cohiba Lanceros
3. H. Upmann Majestic
4. Hoyo de Monterrey Palmas Extra
5. La Gloria Cubana Medaille D'OR NO.4
6. Montecristo Especial No. 1
7. Montecristo Especial No. 2
8. Partagas Super Partagas
9. Por Larranaga Montecarlos
10. Romeo Y Julieta No.1 Tubos
11. Trinidad Fundadores

I would want samplers based on cigar characteristic/flavor profile.

Mild, Medium Strong, with sub groups spicy, creamy, salted driftwood (Really Rob, love the SP Beli, but salted driftwood - love it), stone fruite ertc... I for one have a hard time distinguishing any of these notes - well not strength and spice.

W-e-l-l-l-l ... how about the following:

*)   El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme (chosen only because lonsdale Gran Corona is discontinued)

  *)   Cohiba Esplendido

*)   Por Larranaga PC (chosen again for same reason as El Rey del Mundo)

  *)   Ramon Allones Specially Selected

  *)   Jose' L. Piedra Cazadores

  *)   Partagas 898 Varnished

*)   Saint Luis Rey Serie A

  *)   Punch Punch Grand Corona

  *)   Bolivar Belicoso Fino

And there you have a range of high premium (i.e. Cohiba Espendido), very mild selection (Por Larranaga, El Rey Del Mundo), very affordable "average Joe" Jose L. Piedra, to bold and full bodied (Bolivar and Ramon Allones).

Yes! Agreed. One or two of each. Would be fantastic. El Prez...if anyone can make this happen, it is surely you.

And that would cost roughly 350 dollars....

I would love the opportunity to buy the same cigar at different ages, for example 1,3,5 years old. As someone starting to find out how ageing works, and putting boxes away for the first time, I’d pay a decent premium to look into the future.

Ooh, a "vertical"- I like it! It would be especially cool if they were all of the same vintage, too.

Yes, that way you could do all of Montecristo and then have a good idea on the different lines sizes.  2 cigars to make sure you are tasting the same thing or to do with a friend.

Of course, a "Montecristo vitola sampler" would be a very different prospect from, say, a "Diplomaticos vitola sampler".

Well considering there is only one vitola in the regular production Diplo marca, that wouldn't be much of a sampler of choices

Indeed. Although, certainly, a similar price-point could be found by making a sampler that combines more than one of these marcas that have *ahem* thin regular production catalogs these days.

A skinny sampler would be BAD ASS. I've bought plenty of entire boxes just because I love the skinnies so much. But for more rational people, i think it would be an excellent idea to try singles first.

@El Presidente

Your people have spoken! Can we have a skinny selection please?

I have tons of skinnies and love them.  So my vote even though I buy mostly boxes would be a skinny sampler!

A "build your own sampler" would be great - like a "buy 10 singles get x % off" or something.  Could be tiered, buy more to save more...  Would be a great way to try all new smokes without including more of something you already have a box of, or something that just doesn't flip your wig
