We used to ride our BMX bikes everywhere after school. Now, no one is outside after school!

Things we did as kids that you wouldn't get away with today? There were plenty but one of my favourites was playing "brandy"  (dodgeball I suspect) with the neighbourhood kids...except we used ro

When you got bullied, you came back the next day and fought again, (without weapons)!

One a the best 'rights of passage' was stalking out you best point of sale for a "jazz mag" or "bluey".
Hilariously my brother once, went (with me in tow) to buy a jokey works secret santa for a girl in the office, who was self confessedly into "all sorts of dirty ****" Her words! and "wanted a filthy pressie from santa"
Anyway my brother proudly strode up to the city central newsagent, and asked  (with a 5 deep que behind him "do you have any really nasty readers wives stuff?". The guy behind the till was new, and said (in his best Borat voice)......"you LIIIIkkkkeee!" whilst pointing at all sorts off vulgar mags.        It dawned (all of a sudden) on my brother that he no longer looked like the whacky boss that would buy his co-worker some sort of x-rated mag as an off beat secret santa............that he now did in fact look like the kind of saddo, that would go in and try and buy this stuff under false pretences.....Classic!
needless to say, I pissed myself laughing at his demise.
buying hardcopy porn was soimg] much fun.......and so much more rew

They use to pay us to do it :D

whilst i am all for the removal of cane toads by any method possible, given the immense damage they have done since introduced, i'll confess to fireworks as well. though do feel very guilty for such a cruel act. but we used to poke them with a stick so they'd open their mouths and then shove the firework down their throat.

normally though, i'd use a four iron. you could go out, where we lived back then, seven nights in succession and in 20 minutes, dispose of 20 toads every night. and not dint the population.

Bottle rocket wars, actual fights without weapons between rival schools, fishing with M-80s, smoke bombs at school, frog control with firecrackers, BB gun fights, water balloon launchers accurate to about 100  yrds., buying beer underage, streaking at parties, camping out for 2 days as a 15 yr old to buy concert tickets, sneaking out at night to wreck havoc on neighborhoods, rival school practical jokes that would land you court today, raiding the watermelon patch and avoiding getting shot with rock salt, tapping the watermelons you got away with, jumping off the train trestle into the lake without getting run over, random misdemeanor crimes committed on dares, and a considerable amount of other misc. actions I dare not put into print....

Simply walking or riding your bike to school. The traffic from 3pm to 4pm weekdays is ridiculous now with parents picking up kids from school.

Making a BMX out of a dragster frame and then riding over jumps with no helmet and staying out until dinner time at 6pm.

Climbing to the top of huge pine trees and looking out over the neighbourhood. Smoked my first cigar, stolen from my dad's glove box, in the top of a pine tree.

Walking for miles through the water drains.

In summer we camped on the foreshore of our bay in Melbourne. We had a speed boat with a stuffed motor that was a bitch to start. But I had the knack of using the choke for enough time before it flooded. I remember taking the boat out by myself at 12yo with no radio. Sometimes we'd water ski for hours because petrol was cheaper. Then we'd go and catch bucket loads of flatheads and feed half to the seals.

We'd walk down to the pier so we could jump off it all afternoon.

Of a night we'd hand spear flounder in the shallows.

I also used to walk around with a big dive knife strapped to my leg. I guess I thought it was cool.

We chewed tobacco at baseball practice, got in fights and took ass whippings and laughed about it, smoked cigarettes in the basement, ordered cigars through the mail, brought guns to school to show teachers.

I would say the two biggest things which have drastically changed since I was a kid is how we used to find reasons to get away from our parents and trust.  Riding bikes until after dark, going camping, hunting, fishing, Senior trips, going to college, spending the night at a friends etc., I couldn’t pay my kids to go stay at someone else’s house for a night!

And trust—My 11th grade year in high school I went to a senior prom 2 hours away with my long distance relationship, and my English teacher let me take her BRAND NEW car for the weekend.  And no one thought this was really strange, just generous.  Nowadays there is no way a teacher is letting a 17 year old take her car for a weekend.  No no way.  I won’t let my 19 year old take my new car around the block.

Wait...maybe there’s a correlation here....hmmm....

Setting crickets on fire with gasoline. Pro tip, crickets continue to jump while on fire so don't leave the gas can close by...found that out the hard way.? Luckily my buddy and I put the fire out before it exploded.

Riding bikes without helmets.

I used to play in a heavily brushed area behind the houses in my neighborhood that had active train tracks run through them(yes, we had trains run through our backyard essentially) for hours without my parents so much as check up on me.

Being a skinny kid, I could eat second and third helpings at holiday dinners, top it with cheesecake, pies and whatever and not gain a ounce. No longer. Now it sticks to me like glue. I sure miss those days. ????

Smoking cigs at high school-Outside of course

Riding around Friday and Saturday nights in the back of pickup trucks going from party to party

Tons of "dumb and dangerous" fireworks. Not the "safe and sane" stuff sold in California these days.

Free range childhood? We used to go miles from home with our parents clueless to where we went. Not my kids I know exactly where they are! Mostly! Because I know what we were doing when this happened. Cigs, beer and "herbal smokes"

My parents would be in deep trouble with the schools if I was still in elementary school today. My mom runs a restaurant and would send a different waitress to come pick my up from school every day. Now days, child services would be called immediately.

Deciding who was it for many unacceptable games/activities (nowadays standards) by everyone putting in there hand and the rhyme starts...... Enny menny mynny moe catch a *#@*! by the toe.

not that I miss the terms used just disappointing the other saying of "Sticks and stone can break your bones but names WILL NEVER HURT YOU has gone out the window.

What my kids find fun and entertaining today is mostly just sad as it is mostly centered around electronics and sedentary activities

We used to play a game called “Ass”.  I dont remember all the rules, but it involved a tennis ball being thrown against a brick wall.

When you lost, the penalty was that you had to stand facing the wall, bent over, and the other players got to take turns whipping the tennis ball at your ass.

We played a similar game called wallball where you throw a tennis ball at a wall. If another player can catch the ball before it hits the ground then you line up on the wall and the one who caught it pegs you (usually aiming for the ass lol). If the other player fumbles the catch he has to run to the wall before somebody else can recover the fumble and hit the wall. If he doesn’t make it to wall in time then he lines up to get pegged.

Wouldn't have helped me.

My brother shot me in the back with an air rifle, the little shit.  I still have the scar.

And no, neither of us went crying to the parents, social services, the police, the school psychologist as they would surely do now.

He shot me.  I walloped him.  End of.
