How old were you?

How old were you when you smoked your first cigar that got you hooked? Not just your first cigar, no I mean the cigar that started you on this path. Do you remember what cigar it was?

I was 21 when I a classmate at Uni handed me a Avo maduro belicoso after an exam. A week later I bought this desktop. RIP desktop, whereever you are...

I also was 21! A buddy I went to school with was working in a cigar shop for a couple of years and had some decent knowledge so he recommended a Zino platinum grand master as it was perfect for beginners! I bought a cheap cutter and a box of matches, went home watched a couple of “how to” YouTube videos. One of the best experiences learning about cigars that night and I was hooked!

I think I was 22. It was my last night in Rome. I went to Fincato and bought a few cigars, one of which happened to be a Cohiba Siglo VI. Wow, what an amazing cigar in an amazing city! I have been hooked ever since.

I was 16. Had an Ashton with my friend and his dad. After that I built up a small collection by having a friend who was 18 accompany me to a B&M. However I didn’t get really deep into the hobby until I was 22.

What got me hooked was an Arturo Fuente I had in my early 20's, probably 1990. I still have the empty box somewhere in storage.  Back then it was all NC as I had no idea how to get my hands on anything from Cuba. I first loved the idea of cigars when I was in my early teens and we smoked Swisher Sweets!

Real late bloomer here I guess. Enjoyed a few sticks a year at typical events but didn't get hooked until I was 43. Flor de Las antillas sungrown Toro. Strictly NC for almost a year after that and enjoyed trying all different styles. Then I found FOH and started down the CC path. Great hobby and outstanding community.

Don't exactly remember my very first one. Must've been between 16 and 17. Smoked a few NC while in Afghanistan the first time around (age 21). Bought about 100 NC variety while living in Kuwait (age 24/25) in 2016, but wasn't really impressed with any of them. They were VERY high in nicotine content, so I usually got nauseous. Smoked my first Habano there though, and I was hooked.

Mine was a Romeo Y Julieta CC (didn't take note of which stick only the brand) back when I was 20. I was sitting on the porch with "the boys" (my husband, at the time he was just my boyfriend, lived in a bachelor pad with 4 others) and their friends one spring morning. Our one international friend of the group was a Czech who, for his birthday every year, would get CCs sent to him as a gift from his mom back home. He passed them all out this year, including me and as I took it I thought "Hell - I can keep up with the boys!".

Also, I didn't know what I was doing (beyond desperately wanting to show up the guys) when I was smoking that stick. So after about 15 minutes, I politely removed myself from the crowd out back and vomited in the bathroom. With tears in my eyes and my hair half way in the toilet bowl, in that moment I vowed to never let that happen again and learn everything that was to know about this ritual. And just like that, I was hooked.

Hooked on learning more about cigars, not vomiting, that is.

I had my first cigar when I was 12... My father had these Romeo y Julieta no.1, and some Partagas Chicos, and I loved the smell... So I went to a shop and bought a Partagas Serie D No.4 and a Serie P No.2. and they were great, though I must have smoked them too fast... Anyway, good times...

I always knew that cigars were something I was interested in from my early teenage years, but there were a couple of key points that led me to this particular destination.  My first Cuban at 20ish was a standout, picked up at the casino to smoke on the drive home and starting a tradition. That was a RYJ tubos.  I was around 25 when I decided that this was going to be a more regular hobby, and while buying some singles I was gifted a HDM Epicure No. 2, which I smoked at the store. It immediately blew me away and confirmed this was the right decision.

24 Years old, the weekend I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. I had a Cameroon Rocky Patel at the local B&M. I had no idea RP was trash at the time, and a few months later of smoking weekly I decided I love smoking cigars! And the rest, you can say, is history.

18.  My best friend and I smoked Rocky Patel sun grown torpedoes in the school parking lot after high school graduation. We smoked through them in about 15 mins and both got super dizzy and almost ralphed in the parking lot lol. Lesson learned, I became more educated in smoking over the summer. Smoked my 1st Cuban maybe at 22, and I was hooked.

1995 and I was 22. I had been smoking dutch dry cigars for one or two years but when I smoked my first Cuban cigar in Curacao that was it. Even though it was completely plugged and I , thinking that was normal , sucked and worked at it like there was no tomorrow. I got sick and nearly passed out but the Romeo no 1 got me hooked. I can still feel the excitement from seeing Habana , Cuba on the silver tube. To me that was so exotic

Started at 18. My first cigar was the original Coronado by La Flor Dominicana It remained my favorite cigar until they discontinued it back in 2014 or thereabouts (although LFD denies it, they changed the blend when they brought it back and it’s not as powerful or complex as it once was).

However, I didn’t start to get serious until after I turned 22 and started law school. A number of attorneys that I worked for or socialized with enjoyed cigars and would occasionally invite me to join them, so I purchased a 100 count humidor, a couple AJ Hernandez sampler packs, some LFDs, and a few others. I had my first CC around this time too, a 5 year old Cohiba Siglo ii. Absolutely amazing stick that got me into CCs though it would be a few years until I was able to travel somewhere during a time I could start bringing them back.

I will probably be the oldest, had my first cigar at age 60, just over a year ago. Not to throw a damper on the thread but I figured if they are bad for your health I don't have that many years left anyway, lol.

23 years old.  My soon-to-be brother in law bought me a couple of Partagas 150's around 1994.  Loved them so much I bought a box even though funds were tight.  I wish I had more of a clue back then as I would've bought a lot more given their value now!

I was 26 and one of my fraternity brothers was home on leave from a tour of duty (he's a retired Captain in the U.S. Army). He brought his favorite cigars, the CAO Brazilia Chango Tubos. We smoked those up, had a great time. I had no idea at the time about cigars, just knew he liked CAOs, so I brought the new at the time CAO America Monuments, and we smoked those really enjoyed them. That was my first experience really smoking "boutique" cigars.

I smoked mostly NCs for the fist couple years with a few CCs sprinkled in, until I had my first great CC experience, from then it has been mostly CCs and rarely a NC.

Just curious but which fraternity?
