Which brand of butane fuel do you use for refill?

Recommended Posts

Sorry to revive an old thread, but didn't see a point in starting a new one.  Anybody ever use Neon butane (it comes in 5X, 7X and 11X refined, ROFL)?  Being in Japan my options for something that won't cost an assload to get shipped to me are a little limited.  I was a Lava guy in the old days but that's long gone.  I can find Purofine here but that's like $20 for a tiny 1.9 oz. can.

Vector for butane but i had a $70 triple jet lighter of theirs thing would break all the time "free live time fixes" isnt worth a damn if you have to keep paying for shipping, so after the 8th time i said screw it and got another brand only cost $14 and not one issue

Vector butane is cost-prohibitive for Japan I'm afraid.  The lighter I use is great, a workhorse - just need to gas it up. and that was one thing I forgot to bring with me when I came over.

I only seem to be able to use st dupont for my ligne 2 lighter. Used Newport on it and it did actually clog it until the flame was 5 mm tall at max.

Is there another non dupont brand fluid that fits their screw in thing to refill? The yellow cans I get are not cheap and they are threaded.

My cheap butane lighter works totally fine on a giant can of Newport though.

Nothing on Neon, eh? That’s a brand that seems readily available here for whatever reason.

I've found Colibri to be highly clogging for my lighters. Personally, I think it's crap butane at a high price. I've spoken to several lighter repair specialists who agree. I'd avoid at all costs.

Same experience for me, swapped to Xikar and never looked back. Also works better in colder temperatures during the winter

Currently vector with no issues. Xikar worked well. Colibri clogged.

I have been using Colibri for a while but I am almost out and am looking for something good.   I feel like a can lasts so long if I have to pay a little more for it the cost per use is so low it doesn't matter.   I am going to try Vector.

As an aside I purchased a Xikar Allume Dual flame lighter.   It stopped working and I tried everything including purging it and making sure the adjustment wheel was all the way down when filling and everything.   Finally after some searching I figured out the adjustment wheel had slipped on the lighter.   So I took a small screwdriver removed it and adjust the adjuster then put the adjustment wheel back on.   Now it runs awesome.   The only con is that the igniter button has gotten much harder to push.   I still like the lighter but I would say 90% of the time I use a cheap vertigo triple flame lighter.

I use Xikar and want to try the newer version they have which they claim is better and burns a larger flame.
