Popular Post mrmessy
My first review so please forgive the generalities in the notes: This was from a 24:24 purchase. Pairing with the 2018 Midwinter Nights Dram from High West. The cold aroma at the foot was earthy and feint hay. I swear i thought i got some anise notes as well, but i'm not sure that is something you can smell vs taste. May have just been my imagination. The wrapper aroma was muted. May be my young palate. Draw was perfect. Wrapper was just beautiful. Sleight veining, a nice dark, oily sheen. First draw was some slight honey and toasted tobacco. There was an acrid undertone. Not sure if this was me over toasting, or the stick just being a little young still. These flavors carried through the first third. Flavors started to get a little more muted. The honey has disappeared and it's all light hay and some tobacco. The flavors are definitely more muted, however, that may have just been beause of the strength of my drink choice. I did get some whiffs of uncooked ramen. You ever eat some uncooked ramen from the package? It's an interesting flavor. Growing up with it, I can't eat ramen anymore, but I got a little nostalgic when I was smoking this Siglo IV. Not a lot of changes into the last third. I did get some bright notes. A menthol like note started to come in towards the end. I'm going to attribute this to my drawing to strong and the smoke being too hot. The burn was really good up until now. I had to touch it up as there was some canoeing that started to develop. At this point, The stick started to get a little soft and a bit too hot for me to smoke. It was less enjoyable and the burn was harder to control. The stick went out and that's when I called it. Overall, a good stick. I'm hoping it will get better with some additional age. I'll revisit it in another 6-12 months. The Midwinter Nights Dram is an annual release from High West. High West is a distillery in Park City, Utah, home of the Sundance Film Festival. Beautiful country there. It's a secret mixture of their own and sourced rye whiskies. These are finished in French oak and port barrels that helps to leave a sweet and spicy flavor that lingers long after the sip. Notes of vanilla and caramel are there, but it is married with the cinnamon and spices that is meant to remind you of the Christmas season. Some find this a bit too sweet, but it is meant for a specific time period, and much like a cigar, best with good friends and family to build memories. Not the best pairing with this Cohiba as the flavors are rather strong. Now I know and knowing is half the battle (Happy Veterans Day )
