Forgive my ignorance, as I have a stupid question.  I've read most of the FAQ and noob threads, but am still a bit confused about factory codes, and this discussion.

You are talking about the "Partagas Factory", and I assume are able to deduce which factory made the box by the factory code (which I am still confused on how this is confirmed, as they change all the time).

I have a box of Partagas D4, factory code TSM MAR 18.  In all the factory code threads, there's no mention of TSM.  Is it safe to assume that my box was made at the "Partagas Factory", that you are discussing here?

Thanks, and sorry if my question is off topic.

Everyone is confused about factory codes.

Once they have been out a while, you can discern many of them.

MSU is Partagas factory .  AMO/UAO = El Laguito = cohiba. LGR/TOS  = La Corona.   These are examples.

TSM I can't help you with. I don't think it is Partagas factory (for one you have all your bands and packaging :D)  keep in mind D4 are made at several factories.

I hope I helped a little.

You helped a lot!  That confirms what I assumed.  TSM isn't a known factory yet, my PD4's could have been made in one of a few different factories, they look fine so don't worry.

I'll stop by and contribute to that factory code thread, since it seems that's how this is worked out...

Maybe this is a transition period from socialism to capitalism? Workers at the factory see how Cubans in other areas began to earn more and work at the cigar factory has not become so prestigious. In addition, many workers after the end of the day go home and again make boxes for fake, rolling a fake cigars or custom cigars. In the morning they come to work and sleep in the workplace...

Wasn't the Partagas factory closed and moved to another? Or was the original building just renovated?

Closed and Moved. The Divan remains at the original site.

Temporary Fix = sack factory management.

the system as it is sucks. It comes down to factory management and culture.

Why have all these issues occured at Partagas this year?   Lack of management and culture.

Fix it by fixing the top.

So, with all sincerity / curiosity and zero animus, I'm assuming there are many capable Cuban cigar people who could maintain the cultural aspect as well as keep quality standards high - if allowed. It almomst sounds like the shift toward "just box 'em up and ship 'em out" might be intentional?

What does the Imperial side of things think about any of this, and what, if anything, can they do about it?

Just imagine getting paid the equivalent of what $20 or $30 USD per month? I wouldn't have any motivation to work. This is slave labor

There are capable people.

Unfortunately, management positions are are a mix of nepotism, favours owed, politics, talent.   Most of them are quite sharp as you need to be to survive and hold your position.

The very talented are held  below the top positions. They are way too dangerous to the top feeders.

The current Partagas situation appear to be a case where the manager is unaware of what is going on.  This has been going on since the beginning of the year and if he did know then he would only need to crack some sculls and it would stop.  Screwing up with LE's to this scale is going to raise some heat however as the distributor CEO's start rattling the cuban side of the HSA cage.  The manager will have some irons in the fire. Lose the job and lose his irons.

Factories are Tabacuba.  Imperial has nothing to do with them and no sway.

The same can be said here in the US. You’re going to get poor work production from the majority who make low wages. Just think of how often the people at McDonald’s screw up your order. I’ll take a few bandless cigars over a Big Mac missing the paties any day. Believe me, it’s happened to me more than once.

I worry more about the McDonalds worker washing their hands after using the restroom. Not doing so, then assembling my Big Mac is a far bigger red flag than just getting my order wrong!

After my last US trip, I'll take a pattyless Maccas burger. The patty in my Quarter Pounder was so dry and salty, I thought they had just coloured a piece of the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Always wondering as well. Now, Imperial Brands has no say in production, they control (to a part) the marketing side. Still - there will be some feedback somehow, as IB will have a genuine interest in things not going downhill. Things that can quite easily be controlled - there may be poor harvests, there may be pests, floods and storms - enough imponderables. But to simply get the packing done right... . And faulty packaging is a fundamental marketing issue.

Socialism is good for production as a quality stimulant, provided that workers earn well and are proud of their profession. I remember the level of production of cars at the plant in Moscow and at the plant in Izhevsk, everyone wanted to buy a Izhevsk car. The capital corrupts the working class, the torsedors do not feel elite, they see that their compatriots earn hundreds and thousands of dollars on tourism, food, Souvenirs and services, they do not want to work in the factory. Very frequent rotation of the factory staff in the capital.
And Vice versa on the periphery of the workers for many years working in the factory, they earn little, but in the city is a prestigious profession, they are proud of their work, and then on the contrary, all the other professions are jealous of those who work in a cigar factory. If Politika of the Cuban government lies in the smooth departure from the constraints of socialism, we will soon see the decline of the quality of all the factories of Havana, so it will be as long as work starts to pay a high salary.

I hate when I have extra work and hassle because some wanker didn’t do his job. It’s bad enough when it’s a mistake. People aren’t perfect & sometimes that happens. But when it happens because obviously someone doesn’t give a f**k, that really gets me going ?
