Eehh.

I lost interest in the bond films after golden eye. They've really declined since. Its really a shame, as most of the 60s and 70s films are great.

i know there are a number of bond threads on the forum and we can't agree on best films, bond girls, villains, bonds, but to me, the films with daniel craig have never been better. quantum is an exception but even with quantum, i put that down to appalling directing. if you zip through the fight/action scenes (of course, not what you expect with 007), it is not a bad film. it is just that he made such an awful hash of the action scenes that you have no idea what is happening.

casino royale and skyfall are two cracking films, as good or possibly better than the connery films, though for their age/time, they were largely brilliant. liked dalton but some really poor scripts and silly stuff. thought brosnan was getting better when they cut him but still below par. moore was the least. turned it into farce and for that, much as i liked him, he can never be forgiven.

spectre's problem for me, a really good flick but two issues. a brilliant criminal organisation allows a meatheaded thug, who can't put together two words, to become one of its top people by bashing someone? give me a break. and lea S was a dismal bind girl. it was completely beyond wildest fantasy that bond would up and off with her.

Yup, never a consensus on this topic. We can agree on that.

I did over look Casino Royal, though it was roughly an hour too long. 2 1/2 hours is romantic war drama territory, and a bit pretentious for a bond film.

I feel the opposite about Craig though, he really never did it for me. Seems like an "American Bond" to me. He completely lacked the class that connery and even brosnan brought to the part. Just a handsome face with Karate skills.

I put Dalton just below Moore, but that's more about moore's constant cigar smoking than anything. I agree the scripts on the two Dalton films are on par with the first "on her majesties service" just about un watchable.

From Russia with love will always be my tops. (followed by moonraker) We will NEVER again get that much movie for $2 million. (about $16.5M adjusted for inflation)

Since weare on the topic. Has anyone ever seen the original (1967) Casino Royal? It was Flemings first novel, however the movie Star David Niven (yes The Phantom/Pink Panther) as the "original" bond. I may just have to spend a few dollars and find a copy.

and apparently one of the larger budget items in moonraker, and the other moore films, his cigar budget. they would never give a figure but i gather it horrified them. he does get points for his cigars. but he needs them. dressing up as a clown? bond has never stooped lower.

lazenby was the first bond i ever saw so i am far more of a fan than many. amazing how often someone goes with the first bond they see but understandable. i saw all the connery ones very soon after so he did not completely convince me. but how different could 007 history be? if lazenby had not decided bugger it, i'll do something else, and signed his contract - for a great deal of money back then - we would have had him for another seven. not bad for a car salesman who had never acted and snuck into auditions.

saw this. personally, i thought she was extremely weak in the last one and bringing her back is a big mistake. unless it is to have her killed off asap.

She's soft on the eyes.  I wouldn't complain if she was recast.

Daniel Craig is still James Bond?? I thought he didn't want to do the last 3 films...and yet he continues.

That’s how you maintain that big paycheck!

Oh... I'll watch Lea Seydoux in anything. She can read the phone book for all I care.

sorry, for me, they can do so much better. was talking to a french friend, who had some involvement in the last few bond flicks. apparently, she was not that popular and he said she is actually very unpopular in france (not that any of that should matter and i have no idea why). if they wanted a french actress, why not virginie ledoyen?

Agree, extremely weak as an actress, even her role was nondescript in essence....

Well for one thing, she's 12 years older than Seydoux...

be fair. not that much. but then craig is nearly twenty years older than her so ledoyen much more suited. plus an infinitely better actress and - yes, all subjective - way more attractive.

Not been a huge fan of Craig's bond but I really really record Skyfall, I've no idea what the latest one was even about, utterly unforgettable (literally). I don't know if it's a result of trying to squeeze out more films when Skyfall should have closed the Craig chapter on a huge high.

Very interesting about the first bond being your go-to actor for the series. Goldeneye was mine and while I thought the rest of Brosnon's films were naff, Goldeneye is the perfect 007 film to me

Sad to see the Idris Elba rumours starting up again, to me he gives Clive Owen a run for most wooden actor out there, cockney gangster films seem his pinnacle which is about Danny Dyer level... Seems like a nice enough bloke just not for me

Temper this view with the fact that I'd still love to see Kiera Knightly do a film as bond 😰

She is! Not that it shows...

Bond girls were almost always much younger. Moore was 75 for the last couple lol!

yes, some very considerable age gaps between 007 and the girls, especially with moore.

in fairness, that unimpeachable font of all knowledge has them about 8 1/2 years apart. still think she looks way better than the younger one.

Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore in Goldfinger) is 5 years older than Sean Connery.

More importantly, is it true that we are going to have to endure some bloody awful DrWho style reincarnation sequence? Apparently this is why Danny Boyle quit, as he thought the aspects of the script were "ridiculous".   If this is true, I think this film is going to be a stinker.

Interesting that her name roughly translates into "the oldest or most respected".  But back to the point, she appears far younger than her chronological age, and I agree with the subjective conclusion--strikingly appealing.
