Kentucky Bourbon Trail Question

Anyone in KY or who has been on the trail recently: what is the likelihood of finding Weller in stores? I plan on stopping at Buffalo Trace but I’ve heard they don’t have any Pappy or Antique collection for sale. They didn’t mention Weller though. Any stores that regularly have it in stock?

Thanks for any help!

Weller has fast become unobtainium for those not willing to stand in line for hours or do not have a tight relationship with their local liquor store.  More and more is being sold under the Pappy label for extended profits.  You may get lucky - best of luck in your hunt!

I live about 20 minutes from bardstown and often frequent the local liquor stores hoping to find certain bottles. Wellar 12 is hard to come by even around here. When you find it, it going into a lotto. The hard to finds are tough even shopping along the bourbon trail.

You could find Weller special reserve if it's a delivery day. The distilleries are the worst places to hunt bourbon because they get constant foot traffic and rarely sell any of the "good stuff". Check the liquor barns for store picks, that's probably the best bet if in Kentucky. You won't find pappy, antique collection, or anything that's a limited release as that is all lottery only.

Kentucky exports most of everything, so it is really a challenge to get rare bottles. I entered several lotteries over Thanksgiving and both my brother and I came up empty handed. I did score some stuff that I couldn't find anywhere by me, and some decent store picks. 9176dbf43ca20cf41c0c603cd00fd0ee.jpg

I check out liquor stores in other states for bourbon and scotch when I travel for business. I have yet to find any Weller, Stagg Jr. or other hard to find bottles such as Blanton’s, etc.  I was amazed I figured I would find something eventually but no.

Wow, even Blanton’s? I thought that was still pretty widely available. Seems like everything is disappearing due to demand. Hopefully production is up so we’ll have some great booze in 5-10 years.

Pretty much anything from Buffalo Trace except their namesake bourbon has gotten a lot harder to acquire.  Blanton's, Eagle Rare, Weller Special Reserve and Weller Antique can be found but not like 2-3 years ago.  Weller 12 year and Elmer T. Lee seem to have joined the likes of the Antique Collection and Van Winkle as lottery bottles.  Shortages or marketing genius?  I love me some Elmer T. Lee and William Larue Weller, but not at secondary market prices.  There is a lot of great bourbon out there for a lot less money and take a lot less legwork to procure.

Nice score on the Willett Rye.  Good stuff.

On sale at Kroger in Lexington KY for $27.99. I tried one first then bought all the rest I could find.

Forget trying to find weller on the shelf in KY. It gets sucked into the woodwork instantly if it even hits the shelves. I was in California last week and green label SR was readily available everywhere. KY is just a different beast. Too much competition.

i can find some for you if needed though. LMK

Thanks for all the help! I was already back from my trip before I saw any of these. I was able to get blantons, E.H. Taylor small batch, and Willet 4 year rye (along with some other widely available bottles). I did find a bottle of Weller 107 antique but it was $100 so I didn’t buy it. I’ve had it before and loved it, but there are other bourbons 1/3 the cost that I enjoy. I had read that distillery prices weren’t very competitive with liquor stores, but I found the opposite (at least with blantons and E.H. Taylor)
