I have no idea how to be "gender neutral". Not having been brought up in that manner, I am clueless.  I hate where we are headed as a society on this issue.

The front line for the Gender neutral thing is in the pronoun. Trans and non binary people like to be called “they” or “them”.  Good luck getting that one right.

There are 3 options. Male, Female and Custom. Custom allows you to type whatever you are currently identifying with. 

I completely agree with the sentiment of the thread. Creating a million different "genders" and pushing them on your 4 year old children isn't good for society. Just like repeating non sense you read on some extremist website isn't either.

ABC news found there were 58 different genders that people identified with on facebook. The custom option is where they found the list.

I never really encountered a trans or nonbinary person who wasn't chill when I misgendered them, they corrected, and I apologized. Even if it takes multiple tries, it's new and we're all human. I think it's the effort that counts, right? It's inconsequential effort and makes folks happy is my take.

Yes, a little effort to be respectful of other’s feelings, whether we fully understand or not, says a lot about how we are as a society.

Go easy on washing eachothers balls fellas.  I understand that the majority opinion in most societies is that boys are boys and girls are girls.  It's simple and makes sense and if we can understand it, we can respect it.  The hard thing is respecting things we cant understand.

There may very well be a few gender fluid or non binary people here.  You cant tell by their avatar photo or user name.  But in my experience, queers like fancy shit like the rest of us, hell sometimes more.  Even if none out themselves publically they shouldnt have to.  I'd assume they are part of this community which I've always found welcoming and generous.

I used to think gays were weird until it clicked that most people like the opposite sex and some like the same.  Okay.  I dont feel that way but I can understand how some people like girls and some like boys.  Gender is binary, preference is binary. I can respect that.

But bisexuals are weird, pick a damn side! Until i spoke with one who wasnt blessed with the simplicity of only liking one sex.  They've struggled in ways I cant imagine and as a straight white male I've struggled plenty in finding love or sex (luckily got both going strong, yay monogomy) so I cant imagine adding in a whole other variable to the mix.  I cant understand someone who likes two genders but I can listen to the struggle and I can respect it.

Now we got trans.  That's just silly.  Until I met someone who explained it was sillier to not be honest with themselves.  I cant imagine anyone would opt to feel this way on a lark.  I will never understand what this is like, and I'm trying to respect it's even though its confusing as all hell.

Then we have nonbinary and who knows what else.  When does it end?  Maybe it doesnt.  But also maybe it doesnt matter.  The few trans and non binary people I've talked to about this are just trying to get through life without living a lie.

Anyways, this is a community of friendly people.  Non binary people are people no matter if we understand or respect their lives and journey.  they may be people we've done trades with.  They may have SLR dcs and be willing to share at a fair value.  They may have a disposable income to spend money (and that's the most important value a human can have)

I get that times are changing and pc culture has run amuck but cool it with the ball washing and congratulating eachother on being normal.

i started to read this and thought this is definitely a post that is going to be deleted. the more i read, the more i liked it. lot of sensible stuff here. provided people who are different to me don't shove it down my throat or try and impose views on me to which i do not subscribe, i have no issue. if it makes them happy, good luck to them. 

we had the same sex marriage debate here. you would have sworn it was end of world stuff if it got up (granted as a straight unmarried bloke, i probably had as little relevance and insight into this as would be imaginable). thankfully, it got up. and i don't think i have heard a single word about it since. world didn't end. children are not being sold to slavers or pedophiles. the biggest non-event since Y2K. 

i have a couple of really good friends in spain who are gay and as soon as they were allowed there, they got married. they were so happy and proud for this to happen. it hurts no one and makes them very happy. why on earth would anyone want to prevent that? and who on earth thinks they have the right to?

I can imagine jokes / views similar to those made above were expressed about homosexuals in the past (and still are). Now the western world has come a long way in advancing the rights of that section of society and the attitudes held towards them. 

Regarding gender identity and fluidity, I think society will become more accepting over time. I think it's easy to judge and joke until you experience this through someone close to you ie. friend, family member etc. Then you understand that at the end of the day we're all human. Regardless of x, y and/or z we all deserve to be treated with kindness and respect.

to me, this is where the conservatives make a huge error (and i am not aiming this at the states but rather as a general comment to all conservative parties around the world). getting involved in fights about using which bathrooms or same sex marriage or a number of other issues really are not that big of a deal - as is shown when they are eventually passed.

instead of turning everything into a war, if the conservatives simply said, well, we don't agree but go ahead if you must, it takes all the wind out of the left liberals. don't leave them these issues to fight about. then they have to find other, more extreme causes and they look far more like dills than they do if seen to be fighting for rights (this is obviously very much a generalisation).

the other thing it does, is it makes it much more likely that people in the centre will feel far less threatened by conservatives and hence more likely to vote for them. sure, the cost is a few minor issues, but the rewards, as i see them, far outweight this. but this probably explains why i could never be a politician.

ben, have a look at the old monty python shows. not that long ago. still considered comedy classics, a team which changed comedy, etc etc. and yet they often used black face. women are treated with near contempt and are clearly good for two things - sex or to be ridiculed. and they are extremely homophobic. someone doing this stuff today would probably be charged.

I'm genuinely concerned with the attempted suicide rate of the trans community and whether encouraging their gender dysphoria is truly what is healthiest for them...especially when there is a big push to transition young kids. Treat them all with love and respect but I don't think we are helping anyone by not encouraging genuine psychiatric help. As a society we would never encourage someone with anorexia(identifies as fat but is physically skinny) to continue starving themselves. Again, I have and always will treat them with love and respect because every human deserves as much. I just hope as a society we figure out a better way to help them to drop the suicide attempt rate which is on par with those suffering from schizophrenia.

not that i am much of a religious scholar but wasn't he pretty much unemployable back then? failed carpenter, despite having a free ride into the family business. so wandered around getting others to do everything for him. 

although he might have made a good winemaker. rumour has it he managed great things with inferior material. 

perhaps catering? i believe he could do wonders with loaves and fishes.
