self conscious about smoking cigars in public

Recommended Posts

I used to be a bit self conscious about smoking cigars in public places like local parks. But now I smoke everywhere with pride. I haven't gotten any negative feed backs when I smoke in public.  Any of you self conscious about smoking cigars in public?

Nope. Enjoy it whilst you can. Before its banned. Along with enjoying yourself and farting in public. Bloody nanny state.

It's strange but the only people that seem to give me the stink eye are cigarette smokers on smoking terraces in office buildings or public places. Most other people just keep their distance if smoke bothers them. Perhaps manners are making a comeback? Either way I'm good. I have too much grey hair on my head to be self conscious in ordinary situations in public.

That's a BIG negatory! :unknown:

Now, if the situation puts me in close proximity to others that were there before me and in my air space [and i feel good about asking] I may just do that.  ;) Otherwise.....

I do sometimes. If I'm at a pub or bar. Sometimes you get people looking and whispering... Not as quietly as they think sometimes! I still do it but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel self conscious.

I won’t do it in public or at parties where there are young kids present. My in laws just had a huge family reunion with tons of booze but I didn’t smoke. Sucks cause I was looking forward to hanging out having a cigar.

I smoke in public where it's allowed. I don't worry about it at all. But I do if rarely since I can smoke in my backyard, friends' or golf courses.

In California, you can't smoke at many public parks, downtowns, etc. So I just avoid those.

At people's parties, if it's allowed, great place to enjoy a cigar, and you have people coming up making conversation.

Last Friday evening I was smoking a cigar with my buddy, Ross. We were  sitting on a bench on the  walkway that circles the local pier. Lots of people walk there, it's a nice walk with a great view, even if it's a bit windy. Of course there were a few people who looked at us and scowled. None dared chastise us for our cigars  because we scowled right back. You know the type. People who are  up tight and PC who looked at us like we were radio active. I live in a very well known summer destination and there are loads of well healed visitors that come here and spend a bundle who are, as we like to say, entitled. I think we had the 'I dare you to say anything about my cigar. I live here' look going on  pretty strong so no one bothered us but we saw a few who wanted to

I'm old enough and confident enough to not really care about what other people think of me, regardless of what I'm doing. I don't actually recall any negativity about my cigar smoking, but maybe that's because I don't notice.

When out for a walk or in a public park, I generally have a cigar. A good many of the people I encounter even commit how they enjoy the aroma of my cigar. A lot comment that it smells much better than most cigars. Guess they like CC's better than NC's. But if I am in a crowd of non smokers, I usually refrain, just common courtesy.

I do as well. While I enjoy smoking, I can understand the potential unpleasantness of cigar smoke...especially as it lingers and sets in clothes and/or hair.

I try to smoke only in my background or with a group of friends but that's part of the process for me. I'm not sure I can enjoy something (whether smoking a cigar or anything for that matter) if it's diminishing others enjoyment, within reason, of course.

Can't if I wanted to here in LA. I am pretty darn courteous of people's rights to clean air and whatnot in public spaces so I only smoke in lounges that are specifically for cigars or at my home or friends' homes if they also smoke.

It totally depends on the situation.  If I am somewhere that it is normal, like at a golf club, I do.  If I am at a party where nobody else is smoking, I don't.  And if I don't, it is never because I care what people think of me.  If I don't smoke it because I am being considerate of people that don't like smelling or breathing in smoke.

I never have been...but I sure as hell would be if I smoked NC’s.....they never smell good to me...and that’s being nice.

I remember getting some cash out of a ATM smoking my Punch PC and a couple walks by....the woman said to her husband “I smell orange blossoms”..... her husband said....”honey that’s his cigar”

I'm definitely conscious about it.  I actually prefer going for a walk with a cigar than sitting at home with one, but I do this late at night when there are few people around and I follow a route that avoids the busier areas.  And in situations like where I'm waiting to cross the road and there are other people there, I'll stand off to the side and refrain from drawing.

I do feel like I don’t want to intrude on people with my smoking in public. I usually go where I can sit nice and quiet if i am not in a local shop. BUT..........sitting at the roulette table at the casino with people smoking cigarettes............I light up and enjoy it.....you no likey, move! 😂😎

Life is too short to annoy people with my cigar smoke. Where's the pleasure in taking a hobby that's supposed to be about relaxation and conversation and turning it into confrontation?  If there's any question of invading the personal space of non-smokers or legality to smoke in a particular place, I don't do it.  If it's a private area or designated for smoking, all bets are off.

The problem with general smoking areas is you have to be around cigarette smoke, which (ironically) I find physically revolting.

I'm comfortable smoking at the golf course and the clubhouse terrace.

That's why it's where I prefer to spend every free moment.

In a public place where it is allowed I will try to be considerate in picking my spot to smoke as in which way is the wind blowing or is there a spot away from kids, etc. Other than the odd person that likely takes offense to everything I’ve never really found it to be an issue with others.

Agree with on if I am offending people I will not. I am lucky that I can smoke in the men’s grill at my golf club after 3:00. I also belong to a city club in pittsburgh with s great cigar bar that coincidentally I am meeting @Cayman17 there tomorrow for a smoke

I live in NYC (Queens), so it can be a challenge to smoke without disturbing others. Definitely won’t smoke if kids are around. Wait until people pass, and puff away; it’s all about the timing. . . Seriously considering a suburban move so I can get a back yard and some peace.
