Great wife, great life (Go Steelers Go!!!)

Recommended Posts

North Shore, Heinz Field, PNC Park, Rivers Casino and all kinds of restaurants make for a great day.  Good win for the Steelers, they needed it.  I bet it was rocking when Fitzpatrick had his pick 6.  The wife and I try to get to at least one game a year and fortunately my work has a suite that I get invited to once every couple of years.

Weather was perfect for football.  Looks like you were on the home side so you probably lost the sun in the second half.  Hope you enjoyed!

Crab fries?

Had to look that one up myself. All sorts of images were popping up in my head (some a little disconcerting ).

They are crinkle cut french fries, tossed in Old Bay seasoning, served with a white cheese dipping sauce.

Here we go.

I bet Renegade had the place roaring. One of my favorite reasons to go to a home game (guess we should have also gone to the Chargers game in LA?). Hope that was fun for you too.

We live a solid 5 hours away but try to make it to one game a year.

Took my family to the home opener (son’s 21st b day present). Great weekend except the final score. We were watching Ben on the sideline and were wondering why Rudolph was warming up in the first half.  That was his last game this year. there are some things you just don’t see on tv

Looks like you had a great time.

There is a Rocky Patel smoking lounge in the entertainment district next to the field. interesting to see such prominent placement of a cigar bar. I did not make it in w my family though to check it out. Wonder if it might be worth a visit.

Very nice. I'm coming up this Friday for a few days to visit. Pens game on Sat night and then the Steelers/Rams on Sunday. We always come back home once a year for a game. We used to wait until December but the longer we've been in Tampa, we said the hell with that idea. Early November is a good time.

This.  ABSOLUTELY caked in Old Bay seasoning, and with a slightly tangy / spicy "queso" melty sauce.  Pretty damn good.  But I couldn't actually taste anything for the rest of the day.  LOL.

As a Philly native I am shocked and appalled to see crab fries in Pittsburgh. Chickie’s & Pete’s is a Philadelphia institution and I cringe at the thought of a delicacy such as crab fries being consumed in a place like Pittsburgh. ?

Well, Old Bay seasoning is a Maryland creation, so I'm sure that Baltimore would have issues with Philly calling it yours!!!  :P  ;)  :stir:

It was actually another long-time member on here, @Freefallguy who brought a TON of it to my place to gift to my wife and I (along with some epic coffee and rums), when he stayed with us for a number of days before a couple of the various Toronto MegaHerf events we had.  Rob is a solid Baltimore guy, and represented well!!!!  We can get Old Bay here in southern Ontario, Canada, too, and it's a typical aspect we like to shake on our corn-on-the-cob as well.

Yes, seated on that side.  With the cool chill (wearing lots of thermal layers!), it woulda been nice to have more sun, but the home-team-side view, as well as the big screen and city skyline view, made it VERY worthwhile.  The place LIT UP with that pick 6.  Too bad a bunch of crap calls and unfortunately worthless challenges ruined things a bit in the 4th (Steelers were playing the Colts-and-Zebras-together in that last quarter).  It turned out in our favour though.  I did get a HUGE chuckle from a couple of the Pittsburgh cops and staff standing nearby when I chucked out "At least you got THAT right!!!!" when the ref announced the final 2 mins of play in the 4th.  LOL.

Crowd was awesome.  First home game experience / first live NFL ticketed-seat experience for me - a great present from the wife.  The crowd reactions to the Styx song playing, to "number 72 is declaring as an eligible receiver", LOL, it was all awesome.

Two things absolutely amazed me...

Firstly, the city, and it's people, damn near instantly would pick up that my wife and I weren't from there (accents), and were EXTREMELY welcoming and suggestive of great things to see and do.  You could tell they were proud of their city, proud to host, and were very welcoming.  One of the most welcoming experiences in a U.S. city in a loooooong time.

Lastly, I was just awe-struck at the silence when the home team's offence had the ball.  I mean, everyone KNOWS in football that you're trying to let your quarterback call out plays to the offensive line and such, and that you instead roar and make noise to mess up that audible ability for the opposing team's offence.  But, a TV broadcast just doesn't do it justice.  I don't know if it's TV pumping in recorded sound to the broadcast, or what.  But it was damn near silent in that place when the Steelers had the ball, and erupted to drown out the Colts.  The contrast, and fan enthusiasm, was absolutely enthralling!!!!!  Made the back of my neck tingle, in witnessing it live.

If you enjoy watching American football on TV, the experience in person is just unreal. Television does not do justice to the size of the players, the speed that those players move at, or the power of the collisions. And in person, you do not hear the constant babble of the TV commentators telling you the obvious. But you do get an idea of the passion of the fans in the seats, no matter how poorly the home team is playing. As a season ticket holder, football season means tailgating, with good food, good friends and of course good cigars. If you get the opportunity to go to a game, don't pass it up.
