Popular Post KavalanWhisky Posted October 20, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2020 It's been a while since I've smoked a cigar back to back and so thought this would be an excellent excuse to take up the challenge. Was deciding between the Monte Media Corona or the Monte 5's, both acquired from our gracious host with a tiny bit of age. I was doing this review with a few friends so as they have not previously smoked a Monte 5 we decided to go with those. So first third, on initial light up I got a strange metallic note which did concern me as I assumed these would be cream and cocoa. Luckily after the initial few cm's the cigar turned into a nutty smooth cigar and the metallic element disappeared. The second third really hit it's stride and was super creamy with lovely ash formation and very nutty with some fruity/cherry notes that I didn't expect to taste. Final third was more of the same but did get a little hot as I was smoking it a little faster as I was excited to start the next part. Overall thoroughly good smoke for 30ish minutes and would rate 90/100. Round 2 with the Dunk! Not sure how long I was meant to keep the cigar in for but I was brave and left it in for more than a dip but not as long as a tea bag.... Think it may have been slightly too long as the Band was now stuck on the wrapper Lighting up was fine as I kept the foot dry, surprisingly the soak had done nothing to the flavour profile, only a little moister at tip but flavour wise similar start to the previous. Smoking exactly the same as the 'dry' version and the ash is slightly less beautiful but still solid as a rock. I normally slide the band off at this stage but it was still welded to the cigar so I soldiered through and smoked through the band...tastes were find, second third is still the money part of this cigar with tonnes of creamy notes and smooth as anything. Ash finally decided to fall, luckily into the water jar and so didn't make a mess on my friends balcony. Overall a successful smoke, would be harsh to give it a lower score due to the ash not looking as nice so will also give it a 90/100. Hilarious night overall as my friend decided to veer from Water as he felt it was too easy and wanted to challenge himself and decided to go with a unique liquid dipping for his cigar....
