I’ve tried a couple of different ones and so far Diplomatico has been my favorite. I was curious what you all recommend. I like something not too spicy or too crazy floral. Thanks! Popular Post dominattorney Posted January 17, 2021 Popular Post Share Posted January 17, 2021 There's this Haitian Rhum Agricole that I've been enjoying recently. Its called clairin sajous. Its pretty grassy on its own, but in a Mai Tai with a shot of a dark rum, I prefer goslings black seal, it balances out the smooth edges nicely and lends a nice tropical cane note to the drink. The nose is overwhelming fresh sugarcane but there are some nice funky notes in there as well from the spontaneous fermentation. As I said, on its own its a bit difficult to enjoy, and its probably not what you are looking for, but in that drink it'll really elevate it. Here's the recipe. One part clairin sajous One part dark rum Juice of half a lime Half part orgeat syrup Half part or less triple sec to taste Stir or shake, but I prefer stirred, and serve with ice. Definitely benefits a bit from dilution from the ice because its otherwise all spirit and the drink itself comes in around 75 or 80 proof when mixed. With a cigar this is great because the sharpness from the lime and cane notes cleanse the palate nicely and there's enough body from the dark rum and high ABV to hold its own. 4 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Foursquare makes fantastic rums from the budget to premium options. Their white rum collaboration with Hampden, called Probitas, is our go-to for any rum cocktail. For ones you can possibly find domestically, Plantation (any though I like the Barbados 5 for general use and XO for special occasions), any Foursguare you can find. dobbs Posted January 17, 2021 Share Posted January 17, 2021 i'll echo the foursquare recommendations, pretty much anything they make. being a whiskey drinker, i find their 12 year bottlings to be the only rum on-par with fine whiskey. their probitas white rum collaboration with hampden is fantastic as well. that said, i'm not a huge fan of neat liquor with cigars. i really like appleton signature (the cheap one) with ginger ale (not ginger beer) and lime. fantastic with or without cigar. the appleton 12 is pretty good too, and if you're looking for another interesting white rum, casa magdalena is worth checking out. -dobbs 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just to mention it once: the difference to most other rums, which are made from molasses, is that agricole is made from the initial cane juice - which is basically the same as cachaça from Brazil. I had a bottle of Pacto Navio and killed it quickly. Great on its own or with a cigar. Ron Santiago 11YO is a gem as well El Dorado 12 or 15 too.
